I thought I responded to this before, but maybe it was in another discussion thread...

I looked into it back in 2002 and decided it wasn't worth the price. I personally believe you need a roadside service anyway (I prefer Coach-net, but Good Sam's ERS is fine too), so the roadside tire service feature of Tire Guard is superfluous. It is also inadequate at only $100 per call - few roadside will be that inexpensive. Coach-net will cover the entire cost of your road service call, regardless of the reason,and they will arrange to have a tire rought out if needed. You pay for the tire of course, but the cost of the service call is covered.

Actual tire damage due to road debris or some such is rare. Not non-existant, of course, but rare. My choice was to save the $300 and use it to buy a tire when & if I needed one.

Catchand Release .... I bought it with my rig in Florida ...... Had a Blowout , IN A CONSTRUCTION ZONE, North Carolina.
Good Sam was on the spot changed tire and on my way. Contacted Tire Guard while we were sitting , They said "no problem" take it to your tire store and have them contact us ....
I did , They did .. and then they refused to pay. We arestill arguing with them ...

Most Road Hazard insurance policies (that's what Tire Guard is) will require visible evidence that a road hazard caused the tire failure (as opposed to low inflation or a defect in the tire itself). That usually means a visible cut or unrepairable puncture. Lacking that, they will conclude that something else caused the failure and will not pay.

Tire Guard does not pay for any and all tire failures - just road hazards.

Perhaps I did not make my self clear ....
I was in a construction zone, It was heavly
potholes and there was debris on the roadway.

I felt a bump and shortly after the rig started pulling and then the noise. The whole sidewall was ripped out.

If that wasn't a road hazard, I don't know what is !

Don't confuse the facts with appearances. A sidewall blowout due to underinflation would probably look pretty much the same. No doubt the company gets numerous claims where the owner says there was debris in the road and the agents are probably trained to ignore it and go with whatever the tire dealer says. My guess is they asked the tire dealer if there was a visible cut or puncture and the tech or clerk said "No" or "I don't see one" and it went downhill from there. The initial answer is crucial in those situations.

Just another reason not to buy this sort of policy - it's too hard to make a valid claim.

2002 tire on a 2004 coach w 5000 miles.

Yes I heard the old "Under Inflation Bit ... when GoodSam came to change the tire I had him check all .... seems strange that just the tire that blew was MAYBEunder - inflated.

Maybe it was, even though it "failed" because you hit a pothole or big chunk of something in the road. These guys are experts at finding reasons for not paying.

I'll disagree on the value of Tire Guard. I purchased it for $315.00 when my coach was new. A couple of months ago I was putting my motor home away and saw a large screw in the sidewall. Sure enough, it was leaking. I called Tire Guard and they told me to take it to my tire store and call them from there. I did, they faxed a one page form that was completed by the tire store. The tire store faxed back the form, a copy of my contract and a bill for $496.00 for the new tire.

They approved the claim the next day, but were slow to pay. It took them 9 weeks to send the check. I also learned during this mishap that their coverage also covers any tires on a vehicle that you are towing. I'm $181.00 ahead of the game. (The tire store charged me full list price, but I wasn't going to argue.)

If you maintain your tires well, most damage will be caused by a road hazard. It's like anything else, keep good records, take photos and FOLLOW their rules for reporting a claim.

I also carry a new unmounted spare and had to use it to replace my flat. The tire dealer ordered another that took three days to arrive.
