Tire question

I have a small problem concerning tires for my MH. I had made up my mind on 295/75r22.5 Toyo M177 16 ply tires and placed my order. I just received a call back and I'm told these tires are on national back order with no estimated fill date. The tire dealer offered the General RA in place of the Toyos as a substitute. They cost less , but adding in freight it is about a wash in terms of $$$$ (Toyo has free freight) My tires are out of date and I am only planning a 100 mile (one way) trip in the foreseeable future. Chance it with old tires? Has anyone run the Generals? Wait on Toyos? Suggestions please.

Are they over 10 years old ? Any signs of failure ?

Do you have a spare ?

If one fails on your short trips, are you prepared to by one odd brand tire, at inflated prices, that won't match the new ones ?

Can you use local roads and keep the speeds down ?

Do you feel lucky ?

If you want a Toyo, get the M154 instead. It's available in both G and H Loads. It's designated Multi-use/Regional application instead of primarily Long Haul (the M177), and most tire manufacturers recommend their Regional Delivery or Mixed Use tire for motorhome use. The Long Haul tire design emphasizes tread life cause that's important to guys who drive 100k/year, but RV tires will almost surely age out before you wear the tread down. Regional Delivery tires are designed to handle curb scrubs and such rather than the ultimate maximum tread mileage.

Otherwise, I'd be looking at Hankook AH37 or Yokohoma TY517.

I'm very satisfied with my Sailun S637 275/70R22.5 LR H regional all-position truck tires (6 yr warranty).$1,360 including taxes for 6 tires mounted, balanced, installed on our MH. BTW, all 6 were less than 6 months old.

As you see, there are far too many choices to be hog-tied by a brand that' difficult to obtain.

You should look at,tiresdirect.net for your Toyos shipped to your door for $363. I ordered M144 for my bus from them shipping was fast and date codes were 2018.

I have ordered the tires from another vendor which advertised the tires as being in stock. I guess I'll wait until next week to see if I'm in luck. Thanks for all the suggestions.

I see a lot buy the M144. How does the M154 differ from the 144?

The M144 has only three sizes in the 22.5 wheel and the M154 has six different sizes. The M144 can have a higher load rating too. Otherwise they appear to be similar from a motorhome perspective. I have the 295X80/22.5 LRH (7860# @125 psi)

Just bought a 2006 Damon Daybreak with brandnew Onyx H0111 - 245/70r19.5. Now I tried to get a spare wheel with the same tire and it says that the tire is no good for my RV.
Any comments and ideas why?

Who or what is "it" in your comment?
Some writing/warning on the tire, a tire dealer, the RV manufacturer?

flattire...... how do you define “out of date”? Just how old are the tires?
