tires

What are some of the most popular tires for a 40 foot Class A ?

I am buying a 2006 Monaco Diplomat that needs new ones?
It has the original 275/80R/22.5's on it now with 36,000 miles
on the coach.

Want to buy 'better/safer' tires.

What would you do?

Thanks!

A big decision considering the cost involved.

If you use the search function you'll find a ton of opinions on the topic.

Michelin is probably about the most expensive but a lot of members have had trouble with them "checking" after a few years and recommend several less expensive brands.

Best of luck.

I like Bridgestone, Continental and Toyo. Excellent tires at much more reasonable prices than Michelin and Goodyear.

To add to the confusion, I have Michelin on my rig. The date code says they were manufactured in 2008 and there is NO signs of checking. The were on the MH when I purchsed it 3 years ago.

Just so you know..

275/80R22.5 = 295/75R22.5

So you have more choices..

If you join FMCA you can get a very good price on Michelin tires. I have them on mine and they are now 5 years old. I had a flat on the rear this summer and when they removed and dismounted it it was in great shape. There is no checking or cracking on any of the tires yet.

You can't go wrong with Goodyear, you will
get what you pay for.

Midniteoyl's point is valid. Michelin labeles their aspect ratio/size differently due to something about import taxes.

To continue, age and underinflation take a far worse toll on RV tires than anything else. If I were to ever own an RV, I'd buy the cheapest tire that met the load rating requirements and make sure they never ran underinflated.

We have Goodyears on present coach. Our last MH we put new Toyo's on. The savings were substantial! Ride was a little stiffer. Many post are on the searches as mentioned and lots lots of opinions! I read a few posts regarding Japanese Simontos(sp)? The OP recommended them! Tires are a very expensive venture and your safety depends upon them. So IMHO here is a case for safety and longevity!

Are you saying these two sizes are exact duplicates?

but the poster above you clearly said "You get what you pay for" with tires.

Paying more > any other relevant facts

As close as you are going to get. Remember, even in the same size tires will differ in height/width across brands. In this case, the width of the 295 tire will be larger - by about 5/8" or so, but the over all height will be within a few mm's. But yes, both sizes are considered the same. It gives you more choices when shopping.

..Something to look at. They dont have half size rims, but its close enough to compare and it does do backspacing.. : Custom rims, wheel tire packages for your ride - RIMSnTIRES.com

This one does do 1/2 sizes.. : http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/tirecalc.php
