Tires and tranny?
Charlee.
When I bought my rig it had a set of new tires on it, but I hear that Good Year and Michelin make good tires for Motor Homes.
As far as the transmission is concerned, I will change to Mobil 1 synthetic as soon as i get my filter and gasket from my local supplier. I also run synthetic in the engine.
Good Luck with your project,
Henry.

Thanks Henry,I'm considering mobil 1 syn. .I have had people tell me to go with regular oil an add some Lucus . Just trying to get an idea of what people are runing in the tranny. I know most people are running Goodyears or Michelin's, Firestones are a little cheaper.

Hi Charlee,
When I changed my tranny fluid with synthetic my trans temp went down a little, and you will get longer service out of it as it can handle higher operating temps. I feel it's worth the difference in price. When looking at tires don't overlook the Cooper Roadmaster.

Go with synthetic in the tranny - its longer life and heat resistance is well worth the cost. The engine is a different story - if you are going to change annually anyway and drive a typical 6-10k miles per year, any good grade of oil will do fine in the crankcase. Synthetic is still a good choice, but it is harder to economically justify unless you extend the change interval.

HI Gary, I hadn't really thought of it in that way before but you're right, since I change the engine oil every year anyway it really doesn't make ant sense to put synthetic in the engine. The only time it might be practical would be if I knew that I was going on a trip of extended mileage. Got any Idea how many miles you can expect from synthetic motor oil?
Thanks in advance

If you want to go beyond one year, you need to have the oil analyzed to be sure it is still within spec for lubricants, cleanliness (lack of soot & acids), etc. Instead of changing at each interval, do the test and if it is ok, keep going. DO change the filter each time, though. That will also introduce about a quart or so of fresh oil and helps replenish the additives.
I've heard some guys say they have never had to change it - the filter changes keep them going. Certainly you ought to get 2-3 years out of it if the engine is running well and not dripping a lot of crud into the crankcase.
