Tires/Batteries for 2001 Monaco Diplomat

We are looking at borrowing a friends 2001 Monaco Diplomat and have agreed that we will replace all tires and batteries. Which tires (brand, size and load range) are best? Also, need to replace the 4 house (6V) and two engine starting (he has gel cells now)....what size and where is best place to get best deals?

What brand and size are on there now???
Ask your friend if he is a member of FMCA and Good Sam Club. FMCA has a Michelin Tire Savings Program. Good Sam can provide tires and other purchase savings at CampingWorld.

I hope you realize the six 22.5" tires are going to be around $3500? FMCA (Family Motor Coach Association) or Costco have good prices on these.

The four 6 volt house batteries are available at Costco or Sam's Club. They are usually 6V Golf Cart batteries and will be about $75 each.

The engine starting batteries are usually large 8D diesel batteries (I thought the early Diplomat had only one?). Interstate Batteries, NAPA, or Advance Auto parts all carry these batteries. Check online to see who has the best price.

Make sure you check the trailing arms , some of these early monacos were prone to failure . You have to look real close . If they are 3 inch tube steel they are prone to cracking .

Since this isn't our rig and I'm not totally familiar with it....what is the trailing arm...part of the suspension?

If you're willing to spend four to five thousand dollars on his vehicle before you hit the road I think I would reconsider the whole idea. It sounds like it has been sitting for awhile and there may be other repairs needed? Why don't you just rent a RV from a private vender? It just might save your friendship too. My 2 cents.
