Running without a surge guard is akin to having unprotected sex and hoping not to get the girl pregnant.
My opinion. Ymmv…

Well, seems we've heard from all those that have one, how about all those campers I've camped around and don't see any sign of a protector or questioned and their not even sure what I'm talking about, any of you out there?
Why do manufactors not include these devises on their coaches?

I suppose if you have a lot of money you don't know what to do with, and a lightning strike or other electrical anomaly cooks your appliance, might as well trade the whole MH for the latest and greatest one.

Or better yet, give the motorhome with the fried appliance to your favorite relative, AND THEN buy yourself the newest, latest and greatest MH.

I have used the Progressive Industries HW50C on my previous 5ers and now on my MH. They have the best warranty and great customer service.
I wouldn't leave home without it!
Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

Thank you everyone. Now you have brought up another question. Since I have both 50 amp and 30 amp capabilities does the 50 amp allow me to hook up to 30 amp services? Or do I buy one of each (ugh) or is there a dual surge protector and is it really needed?

The 50A PI unit adapts via a 30A dogbone adapter at the park pedestal. Or a 20A.
Easy-peasy

Same here. Scout around the internet, they can be had a lot cheaper than the "sales" at Camping World.

You have to get a Progressive unit. I have the portable unit so I can bypass it if necessary and also if it catches fire due to a massive surge it is outside the motorhome. What I like is the digital readout which tells you not only the voltage on each leg but also how much current is being drawn. I originally had the TRC but the 1 year warranty should put you off when Progressive gives you lifetime.
