Luckily all the CL scams seem to have the same M.O. They only give you one picture and then the asking price end in an odd amount, like $11,058.

All you have to do is tell them you are only a few miles from it and can bring cash. They don't reply. Another favorite is to mention that your brother is a deputy sheriff in that county and he could come over to check it out.

They use an odd number so they can track which ad they are getting a response from. They place thousands of them across the country so it's easy to get confused.

So what is the scam? Great coach at a too low price that doesn't really exist? So the joke is on them for wasting their time with this.

It's a volume play, jay. For every ten thousand people who see the game right away there will always be a few dim bulbs on the tree. They'll send a few hundred $$ via PayPal or some such thing to hold the deal, and then everyone disappears.

Unfortunately, there are gullible people out there who answer those "too good to be true" ads. Not sure how it works exactly but i figure it could be something like this.
Mr Gullible sees the ad, replies to it, then is asked to send a deposit to hold the merchandise. Mr G. doesn't want to lose this fantastic once in a lifetime deal so, without even seeing the merchandise, sends money without hesitation.

Maybe we need to be taking the long view on this ... think about it.
Do we really want Mr. Gullible as part of the RVing community? Obviously Mr Gullible is clueless about the RV market. Chances are better'n average he's going to be clueless about the ins and outs of any and all things RV related. Do you really want Mr Gullible driving a 30,000 40' DP driving around the campground streets where you, your wife, your kids and your play? Camping next you without a clue in the world as to how is rig works?
Just a little food for thought.

Blaming the victim for being victimized. Interesting concept. Like getting shot for being in the wrong neighborhood or getting molested for looking too good. Certainly would cut down on the number of police and prisons we need. Just because I may be stupid does not make it OK for someone to take my stuff.

You're absolutely right! But unfortunately, potential scams are out there in numbers and we can't do much to stop them. That leaves us to use our smarts and common sense to stay out of the mess.
If i do something silly, such as sending money to hold a "too good to be true" motorhome without ever seeing it, then yes, there would be two to blame. The scammer and myself...
