Toe-In and tire wear

We just got back from a 3,200 mile, 3 week trip. We now have 5,290 miles on our 2013 Thor Challenger 37GT.

When we got home I notice the tread was completely gone on the outside of the left front tire. I looked at the right front tire and the cord was showing on the outside tread area!

I have emailed the dealer and will followup with a phone call tomorrow. I strongly feel that they owe me a front end alignment and a new set of front tires. They are reputable s don't things there will be an issue.

More as it develops.

Things have a nasty way of not working out as you would think when money is involved. Have you looked to see if your tie rod is bent?

I hope all works out well for you

Thor should have done a front end alignment after the coach was built. The alignment cant be set from the chassis builder because they do not know what is going on it and how much it weighs. Sounds like you may need to contact Thor if the dealer does not help you.

So far the dealer hasn't responded to email or phone calls. I will call Thor shortly.

Thor has a part in my rig manual that states (paraphrased) "get front end alignment as soon as you have a working load or you can get unusual tire wear"

It states that you are responsible for that alignment after they build and install the coach or they are because they built and installed the coach? The wording does not seem to clear to me.

Owner requirement.

"The front suspension and steering system of this vehicle was factory aligned using highly accurate equipment prior to delivery to the dealership. We recommend that the alignment is checked after you have fully loaded the motorhome according to your personal needs. If necessary, adjust alignment for the loaded motorhome. Thereafter, the alignment should be inspected yearly to help prevent uneven tire wear."

At my first service at Freightliner they checked my alignment and the toe in adjustment was out. I hear the same report from others at their first service so it would appear that it is not uncommon to need adjustment after the coach is built and loaded by the owner. Knowing this I will have my alignment checked during my future annual visits.

I finally heard back from my dealer. They told me it was a chassis issue and between me and Thor. Also that they do not do alignments. He added a little tidbit that alignment is not covered under warranty!

Great to find out 2 months after buying it that I was supposed to find someplace to check the alignment after I took delivery!

I missed Thor today but will call them tomorrow.

I'm no great friend of manufacturers/dealers, but it seems a bit thick to blame them for what may have been an oversight on your part. The language quoted above is the first entry in Chapter One, page 14 of the manual you must have received when you bought the coach...
Link to copy of manual

You might be wise to read it real thoroughly in case there's anything else you missed.

I guess you told me.

I will start detailed reading of the 2 binders of manuals they gave me with the coach.
