Toilet
This my be a dum question but had to ask. How come all the plumbing fixtures in a rv have traps just like a house except the toilet. I would like to install a real toilet like in my house. Has anyone ever seen this. It would be great no smell.

RV toilets do not dump enough water per flush to move everything through a trap.

Yes but if u had a tank it would fill enough to flush right. I know it would take a few minutes to fill but once full it would flush like a house I think. Just wondering.

Install a Domtice 320 for the feel of home and your toilet should always have about 1 inch of water on top of the valve....That should act like a pee trap........

I think one problem would be if you had a tank full of water like a house toilet it would slosh out all over the place.

Be nice to have a normal toilet, but unless you are staying where you are constantly hooked to sewer outlet, your tank would be full quickly. So much for boondocking

I did a search of irv2 threads on this. I found two that offered no solution. I think if it could be done , it would have.

Yes driving with a full tank would not be good but it could be sealed. U are right about the black tank filling up to quick. if u only stayed at parks with hook ups u could do it I guess. Would think some one had built one by now especially for the million dollar rigs. If I spent that much I would like a better toilet. Maybe that is just me.

If you had a toilet with a tank, you could keep beer cool in there when the fridge is full of food........

And you would use far more water, filling the black tank faster, having to dump more often.

Save the water and get a "NATURE'S HEAD COMPOST TOILET". That way you would have two grey water tanks with double the sensors, and now you can use the water in your large fresh water tank for brushing your teeth, shaving, and Looooooooog hot showers. deSanford

The toilet already effectively has a water trap, as long as you let the bowl refill a couple of inches above the valve after each use. Water seal = no fumes. If you're regularly getting odor you may have a problem, but its not likely a problem of toilet design.

Ours has a trap of sorts AND a built in maceator(sp) Google Headhunter rv toilets...$1500 plus installation kit. Less than a gal. per "operation"...

Sardis22 - I think you should go ahead and install one. Let us know how it works out for you. Black tank odors are tough for sure.
