HI, my 2003 Endeavor has the aluminum roof. The previous owner must have used a degreaser on the top and cut away the clear coat so now when it rains I get white streaks down the sides. Talked to 2 RV dealers about the problem and they indicated I just needed to re-coat the top with clear-coat. The question is...What type paint is the clear-coat so I can go get some and spray or paint it on myself depending on what type of paint. thanks for any feedback

Clear coat is applied on top of the paint as a protectant. You may be able to buy premixed aerosol cans but the most economic may be to go to a auto paint store and buy in quantity. The better products will actually be a 2 part mix, the clear coat + a hardener. You then use a compressor with paint sprayer.

Preparation of the roof will be important to get the clear coat to adhere, also, overspray might be a problem so you will have to protect the rest of the roof vents etc and exterior of the coach.

Another option may be to look at some sort of floor protectant/wax. On a fiberglass roof some people use either Mop & Glow or Zep Commercial Floor Wax. This is not a permanent solution and has to be redone every couple years but it is easy to apply after cleaning the roof, just use either a sponge roller or rag.

So based on what i think you are telling me is that the paint is the usual polyurethane clear coat like on autos??? correct???

Yes, that is my understanding, if that is what is suppose to be sprayed on the roof.

You may call or email Monaco and ask them what the proper maintenance for an aluminum roof. Here is a link to their website and a place to ask for technical assistance. I've used this several times.

That aluminum is painted using about the same paint and processes as used on the sides. In other words, nothing special. It may respond well to a good washing and waxing. If you haven't tried that yet, that may prove to be a worthwhile investment for you. You might also look into using articles dealing with using a commercial floor wax called Red Max Pro. Many swear by an occasional coat on their properly prepared roofs.

Not sure where the dealers got the idea of clear coat.
