Tow Protection

Has anyone ever used the blanket type protection on there tow and how does it work. I have seen two kinds 1) Tow Defender Tow Shield 2)Perfect-A-Tow.

I use Protect-A-Tow and I love it. It's easy to install: 4 eye bolts that need to be drilled under the bumper of the RV and 2 eye bolts that need to be drilled under the bumper of your TOAD. After doing the initial installation, all you need to do on your next trip is to hook up your TOAD, then snap the mesh screen onto each eye bolt and then unfold and connect the PVC cross bar....less than 5 minutes max. It not only protects your TOAD from rocks, but it also keeps your TOAD cleaner than if you didn't have it. Plus, it folds away nicely and you can spray it off with water since it does get road grime on it. I've had mine for 3 years and no issues.

I use the Tow Defender from Roadmaster...adapts to Roadmaster tow bar by inserting to pins. Takes about 2 minutes as it rolls up for storage on back of coach. No dings after about 30K miles.

I have a protect a tow and I use it on my coach with a CAT engine. With the CAT exhaust coming out the back of the motorhome it will melt the plastic fabric unless you make some type of bracket to lift the cover up and away from the exhaust. Protect a tow will tell you that or to not use it with a rear exhaust. I have no experience with the roadmaster one.

Thanks so much, one more question. Will small rocks collect on top as you travel? And if we have a mud flap the width of the MH can we still install this?

I have not had a problem with rocks after 4 years of use and I have the full width mud flap. On the exhaust comment, tailpipe must be at least on a 45 degree angle or you will suffer burn thru. Mine, a Cummins engine, is at 45 degrees and no problem.
