Anyone out there tow a Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk with their Ford F53 chasis and V10 engine? Still trying to figure out our best toad.

We did for about a year or so before moving up to our Class A. Handled fine. We just never liked the wind drag on our Class C and the frequent gas stops so we got the diesel pusher. We still drag our Trailhawk. No problems so far. It’s a 2014 with 5k miles on the odometer. LOL

The engine might be fine but maybe not the motorhome chassis and hitch. Some coaches only have 5000# rated for towing and a few only 3500# or less. When figuring towing weight, don't forget all the stuff inside the toad and tow systems such as base plates, tow bars, and cables.

Yep.........
Over 24,000 miles in less than 3 years. From our home base in GA, as far west as WY, MT, UT, CO (including Vail Pass eastbound, and Hoosier Pass Southbound), most of the East, SE and NE, (including the I40 both directions over the Smokies, I77 both directions over the pass near Fancy Gap) and as far north as PEI and Nova Scotia, eastern Canada, as well as across much of the Midwest.
I have only experienced the "wobble" once, which I fully expected it to occurs during a very slow speed, very tight turn through a major dip pulling into a gas station. I would suggest you get the EPS harness installed though..... (if you are not aware of the potneial wobble issue, go to the toad forums and search under Cherokee Wobble, several key threads that will give you more info than you'll ever want to read)
We traded in a 3 year old Mercedes GLK 350 4matic that was not towable, and have been very pleased with our Trailhawk; never really missed the Merc.
My Trailhawk last weighed in at 4,600#s with a full gas tank and 2 relatively heavy bicycles on a hitch mounted Thule rack. I am on a 24k chassis (fully loaded about 22.6k) with 30k GCWR and a 5k hitch, so I am well within all weight limits. I use a Blue Ox Alpha tow bar, and an SMI Stay N Play brake system.
Regards

Most Gassers have 5,000 pound rated hitches
And few (when loaded or travel) have the overhead to tow 5,000 pounds (mine only tows 4,000 pounds) NOTE This is generic yours could be different.
How to figure it out.
Find your vehicle "Sticker" the CGVW (Combined Gross Vehicle Weight) rating.
Drive across a scale. any vehicle scale will do, even a closed weigh station so long as the scale is live and you can read the weight
Subtract the weight of loaderd RV from CGVW
That's the most you can tow with a STRAIGHT HITCH IF the jeerp is heavier you are over your tow rating.. Jeeps tend to be heavy.
A few pounds .. Well you weigh the risk, Many pounds don't risk it.
NOTE: if you need a DROP hitch to even out the tow bar.. This greatly reduces that 5,000 pound hitch rating... DO NOT TOW A JEEP.

"NOTE: if you need a DROP hitch to even out the tow bar.. This greatly reduces that 5,000 pound hitch rating... DO NOT TOW A JEEP."
That's a bit puzzling! I have a 4" drop for my hitch so I can tow my Malibu...it doesn't weigh all THAT much. The Jeep Sahara, the heaviest 4 door has a curb weight of just above 4300lbs. There's no way the drop extension would put it over 4500lbs, much less 5K. Of course if you carry lots of stuff in the jeep, and your rig is stuffed to the gills, maybe you wouldn't have the combined capacity, but the Jeep, with a tank of gas and full fluids (curb weight), shouldn't put you past your hitch capacity, even adding the additional 30is lbs for the drop adapter.
My friend tows his 4 door Willy's Wheeler from PA to AZ and back every year with his Sprinter-based WBGO View with no issues. I would think you just have to be mindful of your GCVW rating and stay within that and the hitch capacity.
Now if you were thinking of towing a Jeep with a Tiffin Breeze (4500lb hitch capacity), you'd be right at the edge without even adding the drop and tow bar....
...or am I missing something?

We are also looking at the Trailhawk as a toad. But can’t get the Grand Trailhawk, too heavy. Reg Cherokee Trailhawk comes in at little over 4000#, but thats on paper, will have get reg Trailhawk weighed to be sure. We have Bounder 33C with V10. & dolly tow corolla now, haven’t towed through mountains yet, but in hilly TX didn’t even notice we were towing anything.

wa8yxm please share how one would calculate Drop hitch rating reduction ?
I know for sure increasing the extension length beyond the 11" standard reduces receiver capacity. I was unable to find anything on drop hitch effects reducing towing capacity.
Thanks

Dave I have the same coach as you . The 32 SA has a 5000 lb towing capacity and a 30,000 GCWR. Loaded up the Cat scale had me at 21,620 with my 24 K chassis. My plan is to get the Cherokee Trailhawk with the V-6. The 32 SA chassis will have plenty to spare.

Going a bit off topic here.
Do "I" need to go on a diet?
8,420#s F / 14,160#s R = 22,580
Vs. your
8,000#s F / 13,620#s R
I'm 1,000#s more than you are in a 31SA on the 24k chassis. From what I recall, a 32SA UVW typically is about 500#s more (which would be all on the rear axle with the extra 1' in the bedroom) than my coach as well, so that would be about 1,500#s more load (and no, neither of us are large people by any means that would be part of that scale weight)
I was in the middle of a long summer adventure last time I weighed in, with full gas, full fresh water, but empty waste tanks....... Yep, the coach was packed, including a full fridge, but other than an 80# Big Green Egg Mini Max, 20#s of Charcoal, and my tool bag, I don't carry "that" much "stuff", or so I thought......
Can you post your Tiffin weight sticker in the back closet for comparison? I just can't believe we have that much weight discrepancy (how many people were in your coach, and did you have full gas and fresh water when you weighed?).
Back on topic, kinda. My Blue Ox set up is almost perfectly level straight out of the hitch receiver.
Regards

Towing Jeep Cherokee with Ford V10
Our 17 Precept 35S has seen over 7,000 since late April towing our 3.2 High Altitude Limited w/AD II. No problems at all. Can’t tell notable difference when there or not.

We dragged a 5000lb jeep all over the west behind heavy 37' coach with V10. Got us where we wanted to go.
