Even if the temperature at the monitor is 10 to 30 degree different from the actual tire temp you are just looking for a change in temps not the actual temps. If your tires were all running around 90 degrees and one suddenly jumped to 120 you'd have a problem or at least a concern and time to stop and look at the tire.

Even the rubber stems have brass inserts in them that go almost the whole length of the stem. Get out your Letterman and do some surgery.
