TPMS Flow Thru Sensors or Not
Getting ready to order a TPMS for our Bay Star, and I wanted to get a idea of good points/ bad points. I would think a flow through design would allow you to add air to the tire easier, but are they prone to leaking?
What are our thoughts? Also do you have a preference for a system?

I prefer Cap sensors versus the larger Flow-Through sensors but that's just me.
I also recommend the Tire Safe-Guard TPMS and do NOT recommend the Doran TPMS.

We DID NOT go with the flow-through option. RV neighbor (who regularly tells me that he is smarter than me) said flow-through models take longer to fill tires and if he had to do it over again that he would buy TPMS transmitters that are all contained in the schrader valve cap. Cheaper, easier, faster.
So we went with his advice. Only had our TPMS (10-tire system) about 60 days and, while I really like the concept of the transmitters being contained in the valve stem cap, I am not sure I like the brand that I chose.
Made my decision based on the portability of the unit -- ability to take the receiver out of the RV (internal, rechargeable batteries last a couple days) if I just wanted to take the toad out for the day, ...and also because this particular system did not require a remote receiver/signal booster to "reach" the Jeep behind my 40 foot MH.
For some reason, I keep loosing the signal from the front two tires on the MH. If I can figger out this agravation, I will be able to endorse the brand that I bought.

What brand did you buy... I had a Pressure Pro back before the 2-way split.. My only complaint is that they sometimes leaked..
They saved me a few thousand dollars though.
I need to get a new system or at least new sensors.

Hi BPoland,
I have the Pressure Pro system. It works as advertised and I would buy it again. Have had the system since 05. It saved me two times. Both on a toad tire. The batteries last longer than advertised. I am now well into my second set of sensors. The coach tires only need air when the seasons change. Maybe I'm lucky, but they just hold their PSI very well.

I have TST system with flow through on the rear and regular on the front. On the front there was not enough clearance for the larger flow through sensors. On the rear I have the flow through and they do take longer to get aired than without. If I had a do over I would probably forego the flow through as its not a big deal to remove to air the tire (but only if not using a locking mechanism).

I recommend the cap type, not the flow-through. That way, there's no chance of air leaking from the valve stem.
I bought the TireTraker system with 10 sensors. It uses cap-type sensors, user-replaceable batteries in the sensors, and was the least expensive at the time for the number of sensors I bought!

I have the TST 507 TPMS on mine with flow through sensors. It makes adding and subtracting air simple. Plus the battery replacement on the flow through is done my the user and the batteries are cheap. The non-flow throughs use a military grade battery in them so they will last longer. However, you will need to send them back to get the batteries replaced and those are more expensive. Batteries for my unit are about $2 each.

Tony, I haven't had to replace any yet, but I believe the batteries for my TireTraker are readily available, and I can change them myself!

I chose flow thru for the MH and have had zero problems with leakage.

I have TST 507 non-flow thru and the batteries are readily available at any drug store, cost a buck or so... you don't have to send them in . Takes about 3 minutes to take off the cap, remove the security device and remove/insert a new battery

Cap type you remove everytime you need air which means a better chance of them leaking because of the little O ring gasket. None replacement battery means your going to pay around $25 per sensor when it dies. I had 2 corrode to the rear valve stem extensions which means garbage can. I've had one leak probable because of the Oring gasket taking it off to add air. With that said I believe they are a good safety devise but they have there problems.

Our system is the cap type. Still learning how to work with it. The only tires I have may have issues with are the dual but I will be getting longer extensions to that problem will soon go away.
No experience with a flow through.
