Trading up to '02 Dutch Star DSDP 3872

We are in the middle of negotiating a deal to trade our 1999 Holiday Rambler Endeavor LE 36WGS to a 2002 39ft Newmar Dutch Star DSDP 3872. A very nice DP that is in incredible condition but has the original tires.

I have never driven a DP before so it was a different experience for sure. You floor it and it just goes, there is no feel of strain so it's hard to describe. It just floats down the road, it drives 65mph like its nothing. Windy, semi's going by you barely notice!

I have a lengthy PDI if we move forward but I am having an issue finding out how many bags it rides on and I am clueless about DP's but one drive sold me, it was awesome!

I'd like recommendations from others on this rig, it has 26,000 miles and everything looks to work great.

It has a Freightliner chassis so I would assume it has 4 airbags. One on each corner. Here is the link for the brochure for that model.

I am confused, I have been reading that the Frieghtliner chassis isn't a side radiator while the rig I am looking at looks to have a side radiator.

Most research suggests it has a Sparton chassis yet the dealer claims it's Frieghtliner. I tried calling Newmar, their phone just rings busy. I downloaded the PDF of the 2002 brochure but of course it doesn't get into specifics.

That's the same brochure I downloaded, ack I'm blind. Page 17 states the DSDP 3872 has the Frieghtliner chassis. Now, I just need to confirm the model is indeed a DSDP 3872, the layout matches exactly so I'm pretty sure it is.

Thanks Troyrice.

EDIT: Another look at page 17 states the DSDP 3872 was available with the Spartan Chassis with 350hp. I need to confirm, I believe this also has the side radiator.

There are definitely Freightliner's with side radiators, I've seen them with my own beady eyes

Despite being a total gearhead, I promised myself that I would rank engine/chassis/transmission at the bottom of the list when we bought our coach, putting floorplan at the top. And I did, honest. The fact that our Summit happened to be on an IFS Spartan side-rad was total gravy.

The DSDP is a nice rig, though, and one we certainly liked although it was a bit outside our budget. Good luck!

Steve

When we bought our current rig in 2010 the DSDP 3872 was outside our budget as well as most other DP's we looked at so we stuck to gassers. The price on this one is aggressive and they met my expectations for trade in value, now we have to negotiate the original tires and financing.

If this can't be worked out we'll say so long to this rig and continue with what we have which is a very nice top of the line gasser.

We'll know later today I think.

All DSDP's that I've seen have side radiators whether FL or Spartan. Our 2000 DSDP 3865 was on a FL chassis and had the CAT 3126 with side radiator. Our present 2002 DSDP 4090 is on a Spartan chassis and is also a side radiator.
It isn't until you drop below the DSDP's that you get a rear radiator in a Newmar. Ventana LE and Ventana are rear radiator as I remember.

The deal fell through, I like to believe that things happen for a reason but I have yet to figure this one out. I thought we hit the right one this time...

The deal to me is the most stressful part of the whole transaction. Is it dead dead or can the dealership reach out to some other banks.

What nixed the deal? When we bought ours we both had a FICO of 820 and we still couldn't get financing for all the cost. Had put $5,000 down to order and then a $28,000 check at delivery. We were upside down on the 2000 DSDP so that was probably the reason for the extra.
