It’s actually quite easy if you have the basics of backing a trailer. Being able to look down both sides of the coach make very easy for straight backing.

Howdy All. Some fantastic looking rigs! On another thread someone mentioned the increased problem of cross winds due to the extra walls of the trailer. How much of an issue is that?

I can't speak for others but on our coach and trailer being at 72' OAL it was affected somewhat prior to my suspension mods on our Dynasty. It had to be a pretty good crosswind to push us around because we were so heavy. Once I address and corrected some suspension issues it affected us very, very little it at all and it had to be blowing 40+ MPH to really feel it. Then again we were right near 50k pounds loaded so it takes more to move that kind of weight around.

Also we had torsion axles under our trailer and 16-ply tires that helped stability on the trailer as well. Our trailer wasn't a stacker but we had nearly an additional foot added to the height when I ordered it so it was taller than a standard enclosed trailer, just over 10' from ground to top of trailer roof.

Our first motorhome, being a lighter gas chassis at 30' and a GM P30 chassis, pulling a 24' enclosed trailer did get pushed around a bit. When we went to our first DP, a 38' Beaver towing the same 24' trailer it helped a lot but then again, the Beaver was right at 29k pounds so the weight made it more stable.

Our 40' Dynasty towing our 26' Haulmark Edge after correcting my thrust angle and fabricating my front Watts Link was a one finger drive when towing the trailer with no wandering or swaying.

Thanks. That's a great detailed response. Do you use any special sway bars or similar? Also you went from 24 to 26 foot trailer. Did you get a bigger vehicle to put in it or just want more extra space?

I used a weight distributing hitch when towing the race trailer.

The biggest reason I went from 24' to 26' was because I wanted a bit more work area in the front. In my Haulmark Edge race trailer I had the L-shaped workbench up front with air compressor underneath and storage cabintes under and over the workbench. This still allowed the same amount of toys in the trailer and when I sold the sand toys and got out of racing I used the trailer to haul the Harley in the front and then the Jeep. It pushed me up on weight a bit but the coach handled it well.

I've since sold our trailer and merely flat-tow the Jeep but there are days I miss my race trailer and the convenience it provided having a full shop along with me. I don't miss the hassle of finding sites to park it in though.

May I ask what problems you were having, and how you troubleshooted it and all?

Nice!

Just curious, what cu in Hemi is that, with the single four EFI on it? Sonny has some large displacement engines......
