The races are definitely the place to see some nice rigs and trailers. Car guys are so lucky. We don't start until April in Phoenix. Oh well. I can't complain too much. Going to the BVI's for some div ... ahem .... training dives next week.

FYI, not sure how other states look at it. In Texas, there is no length limit of a tractor trailer. The max trailer length is 59', but the tractor has no limitation. The Toter in the 2nd photo, top right, is considered to be a tractor. The Truck conversions are not considered to be a tractor, but a truck, and they have a max length of 45' and a max combined length of 65'.

Scotty,
I think the problems with the "big white trucks" are that a lot of them are licensed as RVs. The DOT is beginning to see through that and considering the trucks and their purpose to be commercial. That will change the playing field if those racers have to get CDLs and follow On-Duty. Off-Duty, "working hour" limitations, hours driven, etc. Most have full time jobs then drive Thursday or Friday nights to get to events. That will put them way over daily "work hours" according to the DOT enforcement officer who sat me down in his truck and explained it to me.
It also means fuel permits, the whole nine yards...IF and WHEN the DOT makes the final push to declare racing, going to the desert or fulfilling a life-long dream to travel the Country after you retire a commercial enterprise, look out.
I still think "disguising" those efforts in something other than a Freightliner or PeterBilt with a camper on the back might slide by the DOT easier. Not sure, just an opinion.

I do know the more money each State needs...they will look closer at the people who worked hard, saved money and now want to travel or enjoy their hobby as a source of income. That is fact, not opinion.

Awesome looking rigs Glenn. Thanks for posting them up.

Hey, by the way, I still don't see any of your coach and new trailer.

Mike.

We parked next to a guy that was towing one of those with a Newell last October in Moab. Made my rig look like a tinker toy. I asked him if he would be willing to move because I was getting rig envy. It was nice having shade the ENTIRE time, didn't even have to deploy my window awnings.

Nice guy and said he loved the trailer and how it handled the weight with the spread axle design. His only complaint was that the tires squealed pretty good when turning a tight radius due to the tires scrubbing, but running down the interstate he loved it.

Mike.
