We have a 41 ft Fleetwood Revolution with the Cummins 400hp engine. I tow a car on a dolly but, also own a 28' enclosed car hauler. We go to various car events with some of our cars and I have been looking at towing the cars in the hauler. At times I have rented an open car hauler from Uhaul to transport vehicles behind the motor home. Would appreciate opinions or, advice regarding any possible issues with this rig. Would tow various weight cars in the trailer, generally 2,600lb. to approx. 3,600 lb. Not sure how much the trailer weighs.

Our Motor Home is 39 feet long, our 28 foot enclosed trailer has the RV tounge on it.

A 28 foot standard built (not aluminum) trailer will weigh in at about 4800 pounds.

You will be long, and there are debates all the time on the laws.

You will be over length, but suspect you will not have any problems unless you are stupid (speed, drive recklessly, attract attention) or unlucky (have an accident), or get an over zealous DOT officer or drive in California. I have heard they are pretty strict there on length (However a friend of mine went to the Fall HRR pulling a stacker over length and had no problems).

You want to be sure your hitch can take the weight.

My '99 40' Eagle with a 350 Cummins pulled my 24' Enclosed Trailer just fine with a vehicle in it. My '09 42' Eagle pulls my 24' Enclosed Trailer with and Extra 1' of height with my Escalade ESV (grossing right at 10,000 lbs) with a 425 Cummins just fine. I set cruise about 1750 rpm which is about 64-67 mph and I have no issues. I do lose 5-7 mph on steep grades but it doesn't get hot and pulls just fine. I do manually down shift on occasions to keep the rpm's up. You shouldn't have any issues pulling your trailer. Good luck.

My 18' Big Tex car hauler weighs #1700 lbs, I have no trouble pulling it with my 360HP Cummings in my 40' MH. I have hauled over 7500 lbs, depending on the vehicle I have loaded up. It backs very nicely and there is no wear and tear on the vehicles tires or added mileage. Trailer tires are a lot cheaper to replace than those Eagle GT tires on the Mustang or the 20" tires on an SUV.

My Malibu is my trailer

I just use my Chevy to put all the extras in. Pulls good and just got home from a 7000 mile adventure with out incident. Picture of my rig is in the Sunny Acres RV park in Las Cruces, NM last month. The other picture is in the Oasis RV park in Vegas. It was nice to have the Chevy for sight seeing.

Just Another Old Doggy, Don

Here is what we took to Florida for the winter and will be dragging around all summer. Hawkins Motor Coach, Cummins 8.1 with bigger turbo and fuel pump plate. Tows great and my Trailer Toad keeps all the weight off the coach frame. Smooth as silk.
