transfer switch

I have a 2012 Forrest River Georgetown 360, I have noticed when starting the generator, the time frame for the transfer switch to kick over variates from one or two minutes to sometimes 5. Is there a reason for this differance of time to convert over. I live over 100 miles from a sanctioned Georgetown repair shop and I would like to see if the problem can be fixed without driving to the shop and getting a new transfer switch. But I have to get it fixed while it is still under warranty

There are several transfer switches on the market, some have built in surge and reverse polarity protection.
The less expensive Iota transfer switch will have a timing module set for 30 seconds on generator start up, sounds like yours is acting up.
The manual claims there is an 0 sec override setting but then it would be advised to shed all 120 loads until the generator starts up and stabilizes before loading up.
There is also some talk about a recall on some units.
The more expensive SurgeGurd also has a timing module set to 30 seconds.
What ever unit you have on your 2012 unit will still be under warranty. you hope.

The delay is normal - it gives the generator time to stabilize - but the variation in the delay isn't. Mine delays for 60 seconds and is consistent.

i would verify the variation with a stop watch and if it really is varying as much as you said, get it in for replacement.
