? Transfer Switch

My generator runs good and sitting at home, will run 2 AC"s and everything else, however, when we start down the road running the generator--the AC"s wont work (or other things) get to the campground--plugg in --works great--think it is the transfer switch?--I used sandpaper on the points and they are not stuck..Thanks--Vince

So it works on generator when the engine is not running (at home), but not when the engine is running (on the road)? And it does work when plugged in at a campground?

Does the generator run when you're moving?

Cool

Are you saying the generator runs fine at home and powers everything up?
When you leave home the generator doesn't work and at the campground it still will not work? Will it work when you go back home?

Your statement has me confused.

How could it be the TS ?if you say it works on the gen set sitting and now while plugged in everything works
Sounds to me like your shutting off the 12V disconnect when travelling?

Try to tighten the connections in the Transfer Switch while working in there.

It sounds like the Transfer switch works since you get power either from shore power or the generator.

So, you start the generator at home and the roof AC. Then start the rig engine.

Does the roof AC quit when you start the rig engine?

If the generator runs OK at home, the transfer switch is working. next time it happens, turn on the microwave and see if it is working. If the microwave is working, it will tell you that the generator is putting out power. If you have wall thermostats, it could be in the 12 volt system.

Were you still plugged in when you started and ran the generator at home? Could it be that the generator (maybe tripped circuit breaker) wasn't actually powering anything even at home? Maybe shore power was still active. If the generator 30amp breaker was tripped, the transfer switch would never close.

12V is needed to run the control boards of AC's and thermostat, need the battery cut off switch on, was it?

Unless his disconnect is wired differently from any that I've ever seen, the generator should be powering the converter, even with the disconnect OFF, and he would have 12V without needing the batteries connected.

Also, the house batteries would probably have to be connected to even start and run the generator.

transfer switch

Thanks everyone for the replies--just to clarify--The generator powers everything well at home--not plugged in-also when Im plugged in,--but---when I unplug and crank the MH and start down the road--the AC"s cut off before getting out of the driveway--the house batteries are on-- has to be to crank the generator. I realize that Im not totally clear on what a transfer switch does--but I know I should be cool going down the road--not sweating--Thanks everyone for your input---Vince

Please clarify - Diesel coach and generator, or something else?

I wonder if there's a fuel flow problem (maybe a clogged vent) that's preventing the generator from getting fuel when the engine fuel pump is running. Assuming both are diesel, that is.
