Transmission Neutral Safety Switch

was having trouble once and it started when I moved the shifter on my maiden voyage, now I got home and it will not start, I see only one wire from the side of transmission, is the switch internally grounded or what, I am not really a auto mechanic but How would I go about checking this switch

First: Yes, the switch may well be internally grounded.

Second: it may be elsewhere than inside the transmission. Many are on the steering column.

Look on the steering column near the floor. if it's a Chevy it should be there...Back up sw AND neutral. On mine I removed it and gave it a WD40 bath, exercised it...All good now.

The part should not be different than those used in pick-ups of the same vintage. With part in hand proceed to nearest Napa, Auto Zone.

BTW. If you go to your " User CP" and on the left side go to " Edit signature " you can put your coaches info in and it will appear as mine does below, and you won't have to type it in every time you ask questions.
