We go for six months and the temps can get to -20 for several days. A disconnected battery would probably be ok, but why risk it. A good "smart" charger that has a bulk, absorb and float feature is the only kind to use for that length of time. A battery will last longer if it is kept at 90+% of charge when in storage. $60 for a good Smart charger is a small investment for years of "Peace of Mind".

When I left AZ in the spring I left a trickle charger on my car that was garaged there but, I also put it on a timer so that a would only run for a few hours a day. In 20 years of doing that I never had a problem with my car or golf cart.

This, it seems people are so obsessed with battery charges etc....

Make sure the battery has a full charge, disconnect from vehicle and leave it there, Ive had batteries sit for 5 to 6 months will no problems.

If you are not using a trickle charger , just disconnect a battery terminal just to make sure no
parasitic loads drain that battery.
