Trip routing tips

Leaving from Boston to Gettysburg tomorrow . I have routing from aaa and different routing on gps. Any advice on roads to avoid.

Hi and welcome to the forum!

I can't help you with which roads to choose but will share our experience on the Penn Turnpike. We found it to be in worse condition than even the California freeways... and were shocked to be hit with a $48 toll when we exited because of the number of axles between our coach and toad.

I-84 thru CT and into NY. I-87 south to I-287 into NJ. I-78 west to I-84 south in PA. PA RT 581 east to US 15 south to Gettysburg.

Hello All, I've made the trip from Maine last year and will again this June. My preference is to continue on I-84 across to I-87 to I-81. Looking at Mapquest it would add about 33 miles to the route down I-287 and New York City. Have a great trip Gettysburg is awsome.

Just a question, Is the AAA & GPS routing both set for a motor home?? I like the Good Sam trip routing but also use a GPS set for trucking so it has my height/weight/length. Then I look at the map also.

I would avoid I 287. Drove it once NB several years ago and expected to have my TV in my lap before we got off of it. I like the recommendation that avoids it and adds 33 miles, at 6.5 mpg that is less than 5 gallons, or $20. Wear and tear saved is priceless and the you will probably cover the route in the same or less time.

Clarification, Pick up I-87 in Newburgh NY and go south to I-287. You won't be going through NYC at all! You can take 84 all the way to 81 in Wilkes Barre, but I think there is a lot of construction on 84 south down to 80.
