Trouble with grid heater on Newmar 2001
Trouble with grid heater newmar dutch star 2001- when the wait to start light is on it is draining the batteries way down and engine does not start well. Any suggestions or ideas of how to test gridlink heater. Thanks, »John

If it's drawing the batteries down on a cold start, I'd venture to guess the grid heater is working as intended. I'd start with checking the condition of the chassis batteries and their connections. If the connections are clean and tight, the water level in all cells is correct, and assuming your alternator is charging normally, it may simply be time for new batteries. I'd have them load tested; I bet at least one of them is failing, if everything else looks OK.

Ditto what Brian said. Try running your generator for a couple of minutes before starting and during the starting. Also push you aux start button to bring all batteries into play.

When I posted yesterday I forgot to say that I just got new batteries and also had the starter checked so they are ok. John

Does it drain/start with the same difficulty after it's warmed up? The heater is probably not engaged at that time, it would be a good way to verify if the heater itself is causing the problem or something else.

Won't be an MB. Newmar only used the Cummins in Spartan chassis and the CAT in Freightliner chassis.
We had a 2000 DSDP on FL and a 2002 on Spartan.
