TST question

I have a 98 holliday Rambler Endevor on a ford chasis with a 460 engine.
I have insalled a complete banks system myself about two years ago and
not long after I put TST tire monitors on all 8 wheels. My question is in regards to tire temp. Since day one my two front tires run as much as 25 to 30 degrees warmer than the six tires on the rear. My first thought was that I had breaks hanging up on the front but I have pulled into a rest area on the highway and jacked up the front end and spun the front wheels. Also if I am sitting at a stop light the coach will creep forward on its own if I let off the brake. Since I already had the Banks headers on the motorhome when I added the TST I can't tell if the headers could have an effect on the heat under front of the coach. I guess I would like to know is if anyone else has run into this problem. Thanks in advance Jimmyz

I would check the weight on the front and rear tires and see if the fronts don't have more weight on them making them run hotter.

I'm trying to picture 6 tires in the rear. Is that counting a dolly?

Is that an automatic or stick? If stick, it shouldn't creep forward in neutral and the brake released unless you are pointed down hill. I have yet to own or drive an automatic that didn't creep when in gear and the brake was released.

25-30 degrees is a bit much. If anything, the front tires, being in the air stream, should run a couple of degrees cooler. I see a difference in the sunny side to shady side temperature, but usually only a couple of degrees. Contact Dan at TST. Great customer service.

The steer tires squirm a lot more, even if driving essentially straight, and that heats them up a bit. I wouldn't expect 25 degrees more from that factor alone, though.

Gas chassis rigs do get significant engine heat on the front tires and your headers may be contributing to that.

Check the front end's "tow-in". Too much tow can cause excessive tire wear, and thus temperature rise.

As Timex alluded to above, weighing your rig and calculating optimum inflation pressures might also be valuable in solving your mystery.

The rear duals should and do run hotter on my rig. I run 10 PSI more air pressure in the front than the rear. When I check the pressure at a rest stop after highway driving, they will be the same pressure front and rear due to the temperature difference.

Tag axles are usually two tires.

They usually augment a four-tire axle, though there are some heavy trucks (cement and trash come to mind) where the tag augments two four-tire axles, for a total of three rear axles.

Send a message via AIM to stearn
You can buy a header wrap. That would help control some of the heat coming from them. Had hotrod with headers and they really heated up the floor, also fried a starter. The wrap reduced the heat quite a bit.I also bought a shield for the starter. I think Summit or Jegs would be a place to look.

Thank you for all the good ideas I think I may trying to wrap the headers and see if that helps. I am heading to Key West next week and I will try 10 extra pounds in the front tires on the way down. Dunner I have a tag axle on the rear witch accounts for six tires on the rear. When I said the motorhome creeped forward when stopped at a stop light I was kind of thinking that should rule out the brakes hanging up and causing the front wheels to heat up.Thanks again for all the come backs it helps to get all the opinions I can get.

Sorry. I was enlightened to the fact that tags were only two wheel.

Gotcha on the brake heat. It wasn't clear what you meant.
