TST vs Michelin or Continental Tires

Looking for RV'ers who have a TST Monitoring System and changed over from Michelin tires to Continental Tires.

My PSI on both tires was/is 100psi. What I've noticed is that when driving the PSI runs higher on the Continentals, has anyone else experienced this that changed from Michelins to Continentals?

A recent trip in the Tucson, AZ area I had two of the rear Contientals run up to 120psi, the outside temps were running in the mid 60's. My old Michelins never ran this high of a psi even in 100 degree weather.

Different tires different specs. It is not TST.

Yes, because of construction/materials used, different tires have different rolling resistance (less resistance means less heat generated).

Are you also certain that the new tires support the same weight for a given pressure? Look up the pressure charts for the new tires and compare based upon the weight upon the axles. You might find that your new tires are running under inflated for the weight they are carrying.

What he said. My Michelin 295/80/22.5 LRH tires were rated for 7830# @120 psi. My Toyo's of the same size and rating are rated for 7830# @ 125 psi. So instead of carrying 115 psi in the steer tires, I carry 120 psi cold. The Toyo's have the same pressure increase as the Michelins did. I'm getting slightly better fuel economy and they are rated for 81 mph vs the 75 mph of the M's. Check Continental load inflation chart to assure that you have the correct pressure for the load, as you might be 5 psi underinflated.

I'm using the weights from the factory that are posted in the MH. Think I'll try to find a place to weigh her and then go from there. My weights from the factory for the Continentials chart showed 100 psi cold.

The Continentals are 2 ply heavier, would this make a difference?

No difference in pressure required(check tire chart for each brand). What generates more heat is the heavier sidewall flexing as much as the lighter sidewall.

Most tire pressure charts are pretty much the same with the exception of Michelin... usually 5 psi less than all the rest.
