Turn fridge off while fueling?
Guys:
Is it smart to turn off your refrigerator when filling up with diesel,
Just like with gasoline?

Well,
Actually yes, it is SMART but, do all of us do it, many don't including me. I know, I know, I should but, I don't and, I'm a retired fireman. Diesel fumes are no where near as volatile and flammable as gasoline but, what about the folks next to you that are filling up with "Gasoline"?? That is of coarse assuming that you're in a fuel station that has both. It's one of those things that, you're completely safe if you turn yours off but, when was the last time there was an RV fire which, was caused by a refer still lit, and, I assume would have damaged the filling station too, that was reported?

I don't know how smart it is....but I always turn everything OFF, (except the engine), before pulling up to the fuel pumps.

I do too. Better safe than sorry cause it is impossible to unring a bell or shutoff the flame after the explosion.

Got in the habit with my gasser. Still do. I know diesel is not as volatile as gasoline, but we are normally adjacent to gas pumps where I buy fuel. Takes about 10 seconds to turn it off and 10 seconds to turn it back on. Don't really want to know first hand the maximum cruising altitude of a motorhome.

I try to remember to shut the fridge off. But I seldom remember. CRS has set in.

Count me in with those that do not. If it did occur to me to turn it off, I'd likely forget to turn it on again.....

So, just how many fires have you seen at a service station? Chances of a fire is so remote that if you think this is going to happen to you, don't drive. The stats are much higher getting in an accident than anything filling up.

I have a residential.... No need to turn it off... No flame.
On the other hand, I had a flash back when I read the title of this thread, I always kept my reefer lit....

Humm... I guess that is no worse than those that leave their engine running while filling up, or those guys that light their cig while filling up... May as well cook something on the stove and turn on the heater while I'm at it.... It takes so long to fill that 100 gal tank, may as well light up the portable grill and make some s'mores....

WOW! I am absolutely amazed how many people chose to risk their lives, other people's lives and people's property over a 30 second task!! And some brag about it!! You need to watch a family member recover from serious burns from gasoline, skin grafts, burn unit intensive care for a month and two years of rehab. You wouldn't be so proud of your accomplishment. Unbelievable! I bet you spend more time rinsing your sewer hose than it takes to shut off an open flame. And your sewer hose doesn't explode on you. Sorry for the rant but my memory shot back to those awful years. I get to see my son's scars every time I see him. I guarantee that it will give you a whole new perspective on safety. Next time you fill up be proud your one of those lucky people that didn't take ten seconds to shut off that open flame and I hope to God you never have to live out your life regretting that minuscule effort you could have taken to prevent it. I now hate to fill up my lawn mower cause I have seen first hand how easy and fast these accidents can happen and the amount of damage done in mere seconds.

Always turn it off while fueling.
Too many gasoline pumps in the vicinity.
