TX state inspection. who da thought

So my coach is up for annual inspection. There are a few places in my community that do them but have no room to fit the coach. I went to one place and they declined because of air brakes and liability of driving the thing. I said hop on I'll drive and slam on the brakes for you!!! Then I thought of a brand new (3 weeks) huge Lexus dealership that just opened a 1/4 mile from my house. Stopped at the service desk to see if they would do it. A very nice lady said she would go ask and came back and said no because it would not fit in a bay. I said no need for a bay and no emissions check needed. You are just making sure all the lights and brakes work. She sent me to another person who visited with the service manager and I got a yes!!!!! Appointment scheduled in a few days, lobby starbucks coffee and scones included!!! If you need an inspection in Lakeway, TX (west Austin) head to Lexus of Lakeway and tell them Hogbus sent you!!!

TX vehicle inspections were a joke and a scam back when I lived in there in the late '60s and early '70s. From what I've read, nothing has changed.

I thought gettin her done 1\4 mile from the house was a good thing. Glad for me things have changed a little in 50 years. Sure hope I can complain how things were done 30 years from today. JD

The down side is driving your bus on 620 during the day.

When go to leave, we're planning on 7 pm departure time. It will also put us on the far side of Dallas when traffic is light there, too.

That new Lexus dealer is the nicest I've ever seen.

I agree about RR 620. The cool thing is I live down the street and don't have to get on 620! See you r stayin at La hacienda . That is where we stayed our first night out (other than the driveway) to get a feel for the rig. Nice folks there. We r headed north for a few weeks next month through Dallas on way to NW Ark for some football. Dreading I 35 drive through Dallas constuction. Safe travels. JD

I've had mine done several times by Don Rucker Tire on RR620 near Hudson Bend. The only tricky part is stopping traffic on 620 to back into the area next to their building. If you're short enough, or good at three point turns, you can come in from the back. But do NOT try to make that left turn (from the back) directly in a 45' rig. Don't ask me how I know.

There is a real nice lady in Waxahachie who walks around the coach, says some incantations and then puts on the new sticker. PM me and I will shoot you the address.

Honestly .... this year it changed for vehicles. You get your inspection (no sticker just a receipt) and then you can file for your state registration sticker. Am I wrong? Wouldn't this also cover coaches? The new rules have me baffled. But I'm keeping all my receipts just in case. Arrrgggggghhh

From what I was told last year you have to get your inspection up to 3 months before you get your tags. Will find out when we get home in Oct.

There's a lot of info on this over on the Escapees site as they lobbied hard for Texas RV'rs on this. I had my coach inspected within the 90 day window and did hold onto the receipt but it goes into the DPS computer and then you can renew online. Haven't tried it yet but there is also a way to certify you are out of state at time of renewal and they will issue tags. If you do that you have 3 days (I think) to have it inspected upon return & you MUST retain the receipt. Hope this helps.

Only bad thing you typed was "Starbucks Coffee" .

Of all the places I have had coffee. INCLUDING The last cup in the pot at the fire station.. Starbucks is the only coffee I can not drink it is that bad.
