I've just done an extensive re-modeling and re-built the queen bed frame to accomodate more storage. I put a hinge on it so the lower 5 ft can be lifted. Now I'm looking for 2 gas springs so DW can lift it easy, it will need to stay up and she can close it.

I'm figuring it weighs 60 - 70 lbs (used 3/4" plywood) so looks like 2 30lb springs should work.

Where I need some help is getting the proper expansion length. Looks like most of these has only about 18" of travel, which means it will need to be installed close to the hinge. Anyone have any experience with this or can look at their factory installed ones and give me some part numbers?

Our Winnebago 34H has a similar arrangement with a 4 ft platform. The 2 gas springs are 19.5" extended and marked Stabilus Lift-O-Mat. Lots of numbers but the part number is either 71685F or 142569-16-000. Bed rises and closes with little effort.

Thanks bigfella. That part number took me to a fixed force (90lb) gas spring that was 19" expanded and 12" compressed. Seems Winne used these on a lot of their coaches.

I figured out because of the short travel and it being close to the hinge, a much higher force (lbs) was needed. So, your part number and pic fixed me right up, thanks again!
