Yep, sounds too go to be true but the definition of fraud is deception for profit.
Do a little more research and you will find the truth about this scheme.
I realize there are so called "legal" ways to get around paying taxes to a person's home state. Do any states, say California for example, actually condone this practice? I have a feeling they don't.

I would contact the company where you are going to establish as your mailing address and ask them your question. Most of the mailing companies do registration for you and can give you sound advice on the weight issue.

Might be you have to go to a truck scale and get it weighed and there are a bunch of them in AZ. Here again ask your mail service what will be accepted.

If you look at the weights and costs there isn't a lot of difference between the two weights you are referencing.

Lots of people will tell you it is against the law, etc, etc, cheating, etc, etc.. Don't listen to them because they do not know your situation.

It's all about the money.

The only state that really cares about the 'residency' is the state you live in, or spend time in. They do not want to lose money. That's why many have a short grace period to get your license and tags switched over, but are very lenient on the amount of time away before they disown you.

And back to the original question regarding unladen vehicle weight.

Attached are three examples of a coach builder's weight table. There should be something similar somewhere in your coach. The yellow tag is from a 2019 Southwind 36P and was on the sidewall behind the driver's seat. They refer to unladen vehicle weight as "Factory Weight". The second image is from a 2019 Tiffin 34PA. This on was located on the back wall inside a bedroom closet. Tiffin describes the weight as UVW. The third example is from my coach, a 2006 Four Winds Hurricane 31D and was also in a bedroom closet back wall. As with Tiffin listed as UVW.

Unfortunately I don't have an example for a Coachman product but you get the idea of what to look for out. Take a picture of it and send it to whoever is running the paperwork thru the distant DMV and cross your fingers that the DMV accepts it without a second party certification. Considering the table should have the chassis VIN you might be OK.
