Thanks everyone! We are getting more serious about this unit. Great dealer, who sold the unit originaly, to owners who traded back in the last week for a upgrade to a larger unit. Same sales person, and the dealer is Lazy Days who seems to be well respected. There is a short warrantee.

It is a sde radiator. You all have sold me on that. I donot know if it has any of the EPA mandated items. Will check on that. I also like the 400 isl, as we will tow, we plan to visit Colorado this year, and we often are in the Smokies and Blue Ridge.

The wife loves this unit, did I mention it has a dishwasher? I should have she has mentioned that, oh 30 40 times . Yep a dishwasher, and it is not me!

Can't speak to Thor quality as I have no experience. Most likely this ISL was built after 1/1/07 so will have the "diesel particulate filter" (DPF).

It really depends on how early in '07 Thor built this '08. The chassis builders stockpiled pre DPF engines & so DPF coaches didn't appear until up in '08.

Most likely a 2008 will in fact have a DPF engine ,however some manufacturers purchased a bunch of 2006 engines due to the large price increase in 2007 so it COULD have a pre-DPF engine.Call the Cummins and ask about the engine serial number. Also all DPF do not have problems. Cat seems to have had an issue and I am not versed on the Cummins engine with DPF.It could be fine it is just another system on the coach to maintain.I don't have any knowledge of Thor either. I have seen several Mandalays and they sure look nice!
About Lazy Days----we do know a little about LD! They are good people and treated us fair but get everything in writing and get verification on what the salesman say. These guys can't possibly know everything about all models so they mess up now and then and tell you things that may or may not apply to the coach you are looking at.I would suggest you keep a log and use email so you have a record of what is discussed especially with your service advisor if you buy.

They will back the coach for 30 days, in fact we were going to the Keys and they gave us 45 days! They were very good about replacing a loud water pump,a leaking slide pump, and a balky transfer switch. All replaced without any argument.

I had a couple other issues that they tried to fix when I purchased and when we left the dealership the last time I got a promise if they were not fixed correctly that they would make it right. When we went back a year later I made an appointment and they fixed the issues a year later correctly. And paid for our camping. You can't ask for more! Great people---just be prepared to stay longer than you think. They never get in a hurry!

Hey Darkism, sales rep is checking in the am, but is pretty certain this unit is pre dpf. Hope so.

Great advice on the sales stuff, we have done everything on email, I've saved them all. Kinda scary buying something this big sight unseen. But if we get there and it isn't what we thought, we will head back home.

Lloyd,
Good luck! I hope the coach is everything your looking for and you get a good deal.
You may very well see something else you like a LD. It is an amazing place for sure.

Speaking from experience, I would consider buying an extended service contract, not necessarily from the dealer, but I'd buy one. My ESC cost us $4,800 for 3 years on our MH, expensive! However, the contract has-to date, paid out just over $4,000 in covered repairs, and we still have a year remaining. Not so expensive now. If you decide you want one, be sure to add the gaskets and seals rider.
None of those expenses were on the chassis, all were on the coach/house part of the MH. For instance, both "hang-down" rear-view mirrors had to be replaced @ $1,300 ea. incl. labor, shipping, taxes, etc.

I've had a rear radiator coach for 15 years, (113k miles), but I if had it to do over again I would look for a side radiator.

Our 2008 Mandalay 40g was built in March 2007 and sold in October 2007. The engine was built in December 2006. It has the 2003 EPA exhaust system on it. No PDF or DEF. If the engine was built after 1 January 2007 then it will have the PDF on it. Hopefully, the coach you are looking at will have the engine built in 2006 and not 2007.
As for the Thor quality, we are the second owner and in my opinion Thor builds a quality RV.
You can go to www.nada.com and look up the low and average selling price.

Well, we did the deal. Take delivery on the 8th. 2008 Mandalay Presidio, FL chasis, 400 cummings. Yep, it has a DPF. Will have to deal with that.

Not sure if we will go extended warrantee, I plan to do my own service work unless it is major repair. I realize its a roll of the dice, however the way the ESC folks make money is buy selling those, and not having to spend the money on 8 out of 10 units.

Thanks all for your insightfull help on helping us make this deal. Feeling pretty good about it. Hard to find exactly every feature, item, floor plan, power train, color etc that you want when going used.... but we came very close. Only had to make a few exceptions.

Thanks again!

Maybe and maybe not. In both 2000 and 2002 (when we bought Dutch Stars) you could order either a FL (CAT 3126, beam front axle) or Spartan (Cummins ISC, IFS front axle) chassis with the Spartan being about a $6,000 option. In the 2000 we got the FL and CAT, when we ordered the 2002 we went to the Spartan since I wanted the add'l HP/torque.
Both good chassis and support was always available.

Hi Koda!

They did not say the year, but did confirm it has a DPF. Not excited about that, but not a deal changer for me. Nice clean coach, has most everything we want.

This may start some conversation,,,,, but the sales rep said

"Yes, it has a DPF, which is not all bad. You should get 5% better mileage. You won't know its there, unless you allow it to idle for long periods. In which case you will need to go above 55 mph for awhile to clear it out."

5% of 7 mph is .35 mpg better,,, go prove that!
