We have a 9 month old grandson and wonder what to do with his car seat. Are they specific laws regarding where to place the seat

Car seats are not meant to be "side mounted" as such on a couch...My experience is that you could either tether the seat in the front facing co-pilot seat or even in the seat belt equipped FRONT facing booth dinette seat.
NOTE: If you do choose the booth dinette location I would drop the table down as if you were going to use it as a bed...DO NOT use the dinette seat with a child seat without taking the table down...

As a certified car seat technician, my official response would be "That's not recommended by the manufacturer" But as a father of 4, including a 1 yr old, I agree with the above. DON'T use the front seat if there's an airbag!!! I think in a worst-case scenario, the child is safer in a side-mounted car seat then none at all. When you think about it- a side-facing seat is NOT ideal even for an adult. Lap belts only prevent ejection in a crash. All those slow-motion crash test videos you see are all done at 30 MPH. In an RV the weight of the coach is in your favor during a crash- unless you hit a bridge abuttment (sp?) - NOTE: look around your RV- anything loose inside becomes a projectile in a crash! Try to stow things so they won't fly around in case of accident.

I don't know about specific laws but in some of the newer Winnebagos the child seat tether is part of the seatbelt mount in the inward seating position of the foward facing dinette bench.

I believe it is part of:

151078-01-02B EA BRACKET - MOUNTING - SEAT BELT - E-COATED

This is shown in the 2005 parts catalog for the 37B.
