Vehicle Inspection

I am purchasing a used Motorhome in New York and we reside in New Jersey the motor home was just inspected in New York. Do I have to go thorough the NJ inspection process as well? Or will they accept the motor vehicle inspection form from New York?

Thanks,
Greg

Hello Greg and Welcome!
You have to get it inspected in the state it is registered in, if that state requires a inspection, and it seems yours does. Since it has a fresh sticker on it, the shop might just give it a quick going over and slap a sticker on it. Safe travels and condgrad's on your new Coach!

Greg,

I would search their website or call NJ DMV and ask. Maine now has reciprocity with most states and I've bought a couple vehicles out of state and not had to inspect them until the other state's sticker expired. But you'd want to know for sure as they may not do that for certain states who don't have similar standards in they do it at all.

I picked up a Pa. titled MH, last year. After registering it in NJ, I had to have the NJ inspection done.

The state does the inspection, for free, at their facilities and it is just emissions test now.

First stop is DMV. Bring checkbook. Sales tax must be paid to get plates and papers. If a gas rig, it's same as a car. Find a big inspection station as getting in and out of some can be a problem.

I would definitely make a call if just inspected. Here's the revised Maine law I mentioned from Title 29-A:

29-A 1752. MOTOR VEHICLES EXEMPT FROM INSPECTION
The following are exempt from inspection: [1993, c. 683, Pt. A, 2 (NEW); 1993,
c. 683, Pt. B, 5 (AFF).]

<cut to number 9>

9. Registered in this State. A motor vehicle registered in this State displaying a valid certificate of inspection from another state or a federally approved commercial vehicle inspection program for one year after the date of inspection; [ 2005, c. 314, 9 (AMD) .]

Found here.

I would call and ask as many states now have this reciprocity law.
