Velvet ride suspension sway bar question

Just bought a 1996 Safari Serengeti. 3126 Cat/Allison with a Magnum Chassis. It has the torsion bar suspension known as Velvet Ride. I was crawling around under the bus getting a look at everything, and I noticed that the front sway bar had no tension on it. I could move it up and down. Dont know if this is normal, and if they are supposed to have some slack, or are they supposed to have any pre-load on them? Thanks for any help!

Mine has no pre-load but I can't move it up and down.
Are all of your 10 bushings good and are both ends of both of the links securely attached?

not sure we are talking about the same thing. What I am looking at is a "u" shaped bar of heavy diameter. It appears to be attached to the coach with only two brackets which allow it to swivel. These are located in the middle of the "u". The ends of the bar are attached to 2 long threaded bolts. One on each end. These ends have no tension on them at all. You can literally lift up on each end of the bar about an inch. Both appear to be adjusted the same, and there is plenty of thread to tighten them if I want to, just don't know how much to cinch them up. Just enough to remove the slack, or with some pre-load? Anyone else feel like crawling under their rig? thanks

When your coach is at rest on level ground... the sway bar links, (the long threaded bolts), should not be LOOSE, (they should have NO slack).
AND all of the bushings, (including the two in the "U brackets):
must be in good shape, (not deteriorated or missing).

BTW, here's a link to a Yahoo Safari Group site with knowledgeable helpful friendly members, (were you can get good answers to most any Safari question): https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/SafariCoaches/info
