Damion is correct. MH's have a round plug, totally different than automobiles.

Hi ! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!

Are you wanting something to diagnose problems or to display engine functions such as oil pressure, water temp, etc?

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

I would like a recommendation for a scanner that shows engine functions.

Thank you.

I'm not sure about your coach. The early 2000's DP's like ours uses the Scan Gauge D.

Most motorhomes have identical OBD connectors as automobiles. The only difference is that autos moved to OBD2 in 1996, before motorhomes which are not "light trucks". My 1997 Ford had OBD1 but my 2014 Ford has regular OBD2. Check first. Not sure about big diesel pusher chassis but heavy trucks didn't have to switch till sometime around 2010.

I put the scangauge D in mine a couple of months ago. Very satisfied with it. If you decide to consider it for your mh be sure to check ordering it at Advance Autoparts. That was the least expensive place I found it after using the 25% discount coupon you can usually get off Retailmenot.com.

Your best bet is the ScanGauge-D. It will display all the info on the J-1939 diesel bus which is comparable to the OBD on a car. It will also read trouble codes. It can be easily mounted on the dash, will display 4 data elements and you can easily bring up specific info as you require it. Diesel motorhomes do not use the OBD standard - only gas motorhomes.

It was easier for me to copy a post that I did previously than write a new one up, this is what I use on my Fleetwood Discovery, I also own one of the PoS Silver Leaf things as well, this is more betterand a lot more useful to see what codes mean.

Bluetooth adapter
Then you need the 9 pin to ODB2 cable
Here is the cable
Then just download the Cummins app, sync the whole thing up, and you are good to go.
Sorry, forgot to post up what it looks like when checking codes

You might want to take a look at Silver Leaf. They are at most of the shows and will do install right on site. If you're in Oregon you can make an appointment and have them install it at their shop. I use mine a lot when we're running down the road.

Wanting to Purchase a Code Scanner

I had a ScanGauge D for a year or so on my Cummins. I went to Silverleaf and never looked back.

I tried to sell my slightly used ScanGauge D and found no takers. It's still in a box in my attic.

I had a regular ScanGauge on my '07 Winnebago View with the 2.7L Mercedes. It did everything I wanted it to do except read my transmission temp. (It does read tranny temp on the later 3.0L V-6s.

I bought a ScanGauge D for my Freightliner XC chassis powered by a Cat 330 hp 3126E, but I couldn't find the J1708 plug under my dash. I found it today, on top of the dash - under a cover on top and behind the dash gauges, but haven't hooked it up, yet. (Wednesday!) Again, I expect it will do everything I ask of it. I am looking forward to seeing what the XGauges portion will read. I will admit, though, it only displays four parameters at a time. I expect Silver Leaf displays more? I haven't checked, but I also expect it's a bit more pricey.

Just got the scangauge D a few weeks ago, and very easy to install. I haven't had it on the road yet.
