Washer / Dryer combo question(s)

First post….just bought a one owner very good condition low mileage 38T Discovery with a nice list of optional equipment however doesn’t have the washer / dryer combo. It’s setup for one…just not installed. Doesn’t look like rocket science to put one in so will do myself. Wanting to know opinions on makes, models or whatever else noteworthy information might help.

Splendide is what we put in. We use the heck out of it and even though I was not sold on it before we put it in, we wouldn't be without one now. Make sure you get the one that vents outside.

Hi Gordon,
Welcome to iRV2. I agree with what Vegasdan, posted.

To install the unit, you'll have to purchase the special hoses (one USA end and one European end). Also the weight, physical size and tight fit make placing the unit a bit tricky. It can be done, just be careful.

Our Splendide runs almost constantly anytime we're set up. Zero problems in 4 1/2 years. Er, except for that broken door handle. Don't do that, it's expensive.

Surprised so many are saying yes to this?

It holds 1 pair of jeans, or 1 towel, or 2 pairs of underwear and accompanying socks.
Wash cycle takes 40 minutes, dry takes 2 hours (underwear) or 3 hours (jeans or towel)

And anything you dry in that thing will come out compressed into a solid wrinkled ball.

Save your money. Campgrounds have nice equipment. Fill 3 or 4 commercial maytags, you got perhect clean dry unwrinkled clothes in an hour and a half for a few bucks.

We lived in Europe and used the small front load washers and dryers. I found they hold a lot more than a lot of people think they do. No agitator so lots more room in there. And…where we’re headed…there is no fancy campgrounds with washers and dryers.

My 97 Kountry aire came with Sears apartment sized seperate washer/dryer (stacked) and have operated flawlessly since installation, Can handle more clothes than the Spendide. maytag and Whirlpool also make a combined stacked unit. Advantage of own machine(s). Don't have to drag clothes to laundry and back/find enough change for machines/having to wait at laundry to change machines (or insure something happens to them/ and not having to worry what was put in machines prior to your using them(someone dyed their throw rugs in the washer one time)

The stacked units are preferable. However, some coaches, like mine, were set up for the combo unit and would require cabinetry modifications and possibly wiring mods to switch. In my combo I can wash a day's outfit plus a little with wash and dry time at around two hours. I take them out when done and they are about wrinkle free. If necessary, I can do a load while rolling down the road (generator running a necessity). I don't like using some unknown washer for the same I don't like sleeping in a motel bed. You never know who or what has been in it nor how well it was cleaned.

I have a Splendide 2000 vented and so far has been great runs 2 or 3 times almost every day since 2005. when It breaks I plan to get the stack model. I purchased it from camping world and installed it myself. Yes they do have to run a lot because they don,t wash a very big load and you have to learn how to use them, beats going to the laundromat. I fish a lot so I have went to all Nylon clothes and it does real good on nylon

Ours sure must be different from what you had. My DW says she does 3 towels and several washrags, or 2 pair jeans plus a shirt and some socks, or both queen size bed sheets. We started out using campground laundry until we were in one where a woman was jambing in her dogs bed and blankets full of dog fur into one machine. We now do ours when we want (no waiting) and, yes, they are wrinkled if you don't pull them right out. That's what God made ironing boards for.

We have a Majestic combo non-vented(vents into the drain tube) that has been used for 5 years. We spend 5 months in FL and it is used continuously. Works great and absolutely no problems. Whatever you buy, measure the depth that you have for the machine to fit into. Some cabinets are too shallow for a larger washer. With the ventless you don't have to worry about another hole in the side of your coach or the space the vent pipe takes up.

FYI...actually, the more you pack the machine, the less wrinkles you will have. Ours also holds much more than one towel.

Like others have posted, my W/D combo holds a lot more than yours and dry time is considerably less than in your post. In addition, properly loaded, clothes do not come out wrinkled. They come out the same as with the stick house dryer. When traveling, our is in daily use. Maybe your unit is not operating properly?
