Water distribution valve install

Just received my new shower-water distribution valve assembly. Going to go install it tomorrow morning.

Question: The unit has the vacuum breaker coming out the top of the assembly (same as old unit). Can I install the unit "upside-down" so that the vacuum breaker is pointing down? It would look better and be easier on the shower head hose. I've noticed in many pics that they are set up that way.

This is the new unit: Phoenix Two Handle Shower Faucet Polished Brass - $32.86

NO, the vacuum breaker needs to be the top most item to work properly.

I put mine on the bottom too as I didn't like the looks of the hose bent all over weird being hooked on to the top. It has been this way for a long time. I could care less if it doesn't work the way it should or not. I don't intend on leaving the hose down in a pool of water.

Thanks for the help guys. I did re-install it with the Breaker facing up...don't like it at all. I will probably spin it around later, however, right now I just needed it back in and usable. We leave on Wednesday for 8 day.
