Water from fuel water seperator

How do you properly dispose of liquid from fuel water seperator?

I'm gonna get flamed for this one...every time it rains on a truck stop diesel fuel, oil and water get washed down the drains. If you don't want to contribute to the problem, just save it in a bottle and dispose of it at the local county facility when they have their chemical waste round up.

Toss it in with your waste oil.

I have never drained anything out of my separator. I know manuals say to drain it but I don't and I have never had any water in the bowl.

If you're talking about the quart or so of fuel you have when you change the filter, I save it and use it for cleaning paint brushes or de-greasing things. Then when I'm done it'll go in the waste oil for recycling. If you're talking about the few tablespoons I get when I drain the filter to check for water, I spread it into the air over the grass. The grass doesn't even end up with brown spots on the blades so I assume nothing even gets to the ground. I suppose you could put it into a peanut butter jar and save it till you get home, but I don't think it's worth the bother. My wife washes more oil out of my rags than I dispose of while "throwing it into the wind".

My manual states:
"Every time you stop to refuel and before every trip.
Inspect the plastic bowl on the bottom of the filter.
If the filter fluid looks contaminated or if you can see two different liquids in the bowl, then the separator bowl should be drained".

I doubt that anyone drains their separator if/when only clean diesel fuel is visible in the bowl.
