Water in Fuel warning

We were travelling in a rain storm last week and i recieved a water in fuel warning on my Thor MH (Freightliner/380 cummins). Is this common and what can be done to resolve as no water existed in Fuel Filter bowl?

Probably coincidence. You will have to find the water seperator or primary filter on your fuel system. There will be a petcock on the bottom of it to drain the water. Open it and let it draint until you get diesel fuel. Should be problem cured.

our diesel just had to have its tank pumped and then we drained the last little bit out o the bottom. Needless to say this was last Monday took the 3 gallons or so and poured it on a grass spot in the driveway. Well as of today the grass is still green... Be careful where you buy diesel from tanks at these stations have leaks in them...

Gwarren, I had that happen to me once in a bad rainstorm and I believe the rain water got up on the bottom of the separator bowl where the Water In Fuel sensor is and made it come on. It still worried me to death but I resisted the urge to pull over and the light went out. Later I checked the bowl and drained some fuel into a glass jar and nothing. It has never happened again and I have never found water in the bowl. I wouldn't worry about it and write it off to the rain storm.

I have an isc 350 cummins that does the same thing when it rains. I think water gets up around the plugin on the filter and turns the water in fuel light. When it quits raining and has a chance to dry out the light will go off, end of story. Best to you and yours, Dan

The only time I ever saw my water-in-fuel light come on was in a rainstorm. I had refueled in the rain earlier that day. When the light flickered on and off for a while, I thought that perhaps some water had entered the tank while I had the fuel cap off while filling up in the rain. The light stopped flickering by itself and has never done it again.
