Water leak fro windshield

We just bought a new to us 2005 Thor Wind Sport 32R. Checking over some things the need to be fixed. While raining I noticed small wet spot on carpet on drivers side left corner (by feet near firewall). Noticed when water was running down outside of windshield near seal, it appealed the caulk/sealant next to the rubber seal was gone in a section about half way up and you could see water getting behind seal as it made its way down toward mirror. Noticed a small amount of water inside seal on corner of window. I believe water is traveling down near firewall and I can see a small drip of water there while it's raining. My question, can I use a caulk/sealant on the outside where the rubber seal meets the window on the outside to stop the water intrusion. Or since it's a windshield issue should I contact insurance and have it taken care through them.

If I can use a sealant, what should I use?

One common cause of these type of leaks is the seal around the Clearance Lights above the windshield. Water runs down inside and looks like the windshield seal when in fact it's coming from above. One area to investigate.

I talked to Thor about this. It is the seal on the windshield. Take some black silicone sealant. Pull back the rubber windshield gasket where it is leaking and run a small bead of silicone along the entire length, remember to clean the area first. Then use a wet finger to smooth over any of the silicone that shows.

A few years ago I sealed our windshield. I did not have much luck with the black silicone. It did not bond properly to the rubber gasket. Then I tried Loctite 'The Right Stuff', which is more of a polyurethane glue. It is marketed as a gasket maker in extreme situations on engines. It worked perfectly and has lasted these past several years with no leakage. It also prevents the windshield from shifting around in the gasket.

I thought I would stop by a windshield replacement place and see what they recommend. I know the auto parts places have "stuff" to. 3M usually has a good product. Thor basically confirmed the location of the problem and the type of fix. I will note your "stuff" for if and when we ever get rain again.

Yes, it does seem to be a good product. I should have said I have never used it. I have read about it on the forums of others using it and liking it.
