Water Pump
Heard a strange noise when we brought our MH home last weekend. My thank goodness mechanical husband looked at it and it appears the water pump has gone out. We have an 05 Newmar Kountry Star. We live 150 miles from the closest repair shop so he is going to do it himself. Was a little shocking to come in and see that huge engine under my bed. Pump should be here tomorrow and hopefully we will be ready to roll. Any advice???

The pump should come with instructions for both the water and 12v wiring. Not much to it, just remember where the old hoses/wires come off (might want to tag or mark them) and put the like items from the new pump in the same places.

I think she is talking about the engine water pump.

Now that I reread it, I'd have to agree. Guess I should have realized that when I got to the "huge engine under my bed" part.

Sorry - yep the engine water pump. He has been on the phone with CAT and Freightliner both and they have been very helpful. Please understand MH's and MH lingo is all new to me - knew the engine was under the bed just didn't realize how closely under the bed it was. Kind of like sleeping on the hood of a vehicle. Again sorry for being unclear - will get this right eventually. My husband would be embarrassed if he read my lame post. He knows more about this stuff than me - I just have more access to the computer. Thanks for help.

Fan bearing
Wasn't water pump after all but a fan bearing - Thanks to IRV2 for all the info husband found and also to OK CY Freightliner for their advice and information. Working on it now and hopefully will be ready to roll soon.

You might characterize it as sleeping on the hood of a car, Barbara, but you could also think of it being back there to keep the noise down in the cab.
If you and DH are the type of RVers that drive during the day, set up camp 3:30pm - 5pm, go to bed at 11pm, you'll soon forget the engine is even back there.
Mine never adds heat or smells to the bedroom, as far as I can tell.

Engine under bed
Jim - actually I love sleeping while my husband is driving. The hum of the engine and the rocking motion makes for really good sleeping. You are right - it makes it really nice that the engine is in the back - can visit easily up front. Haven't found much about RVing or our motor home that I do not like.

No side radiator
If your MH doesn't have a side radiator and he is working on it I bet he will look into a side radiator next on the next one. That's what I did , got tired of standing on my head to work on everything.

You are 100% correct. He said to tell you this one has been a learning process - he will definately have a longer "must have" list next time with a side radiator being at the top of the list. Even with all our break-downs we still love our MH and can't wait to get on the road.
