Water system Accumulator

How many have or added an Accumulator to there fresh water system? Does it help reduce hot and cold water surges when taking a shower. Will it maintain a better flow through the tankless water heater to give a more consistant water temp.

Our coach came with a accumulator. When it sprung a leak and would not hold pressure we had surges in water pressure, so I can only assume that adding one would help!

Chiming in here. Another member was looking for a pump replacement when this came up, a variable flow, internally regulated pump.

Will not work with an accumulator though....

$160. I just ordered one!

I installed a small RV unit on my coach . It sure stops the surges and the pump does not cycle as much especially during low flow conditions.

Not a bad idea! My need stems more from generally dislikng the pump scream when I need to wet a toothbrush. 4 gal is huge, I dont have room in the basement for it, enough down there already!

Was it a residential unit???

I picked up a 2.5 gallon potable water expansion tank at Lowe's.

The tank can be Tee 'd into any cold water line anywhere in the system. Mine is laying under the sink, back when you can't reach anyway. I actually pulled the outside shower panel to slip it in it's hole.

It was designed for residential use. It wasn't as big as it sounds ..if I recall correctly about 2 times the size of a 2 liter coke bottle but 18 "or so long i strapped it to the frame up on the basement ceiling ...worked just fine and was out f the way.

I installed this accumulator tank from Amazon a year or so ago https://smile.amazon.com/Accumulator.../dp/B00IRFW38W at the time it was priced less than the smaller RV specific models, just had to add a T and a couple of hoses. Mine is installed under the bathroom sink on the cold water line. A nice bonus I get a gallon or so of water to use even when the water pump is turned off.
