Same thing happen to us with our 2007 chaais under our 2008 coach. Agent didn't know how to correct it showing we had a 2008. Went to her boss and she fixed it on the computer showing 2008 and tag office took it as a 2008.

It appears that I am lucky that my chassis is also the same year as my completed RV, unlike the OP. I have not bought a new RV, only used so perhaps that explains why I have not encountered this issue. Sounds like a case of buy beware.

My 2006 Class A RV has one VIN, it for all purposes appears to be a Ford VIN, it is the same VIN that is on the chassis stickers, etc. The VIN works on Ford Parts.com. So, how is it that Thor DID NOT create their own VIN but only used the Ford chassis VIN?

If you are the Second Owner, the MCO shuffle was already done.. now it just goes by the Title..

Don't know if this will help, but the VIN number will tell you what year the chassis was made. Vins have 17 letters and digits. If you count 8 digits from the end of the vin back, that character will tell you the year it was made. For example, A=2010, B=2011, C=2012. Prior years used numbers and the year produced. Most states use the VIN number to register vehicles.

They do use the VIN BUT the completed vehicle, according to Federal Law, must titled by the year set by the manufacturers MCO (Manufacturers Certificate of Origin.

Let's get back to the OP. He now has a 2012 RV on a 2010 chassis. It will be titled as a 2012 RV. Regardless, anytime the OP goes to NAPA or Ford or whatever, they will use the chassis VIN, which is 2010, correct?

It may be legal but I don't see it as being right. What changes were made to the chassis between 10 and 12? This seems like some dirty little secret of the RV business. Perhaps it is because 80% of buyers don't really give a crap what year the chassis is, only what color the cabinets are, that the builders get away with this. From what I read, the OP has no legal standing to complain about this. Is it a legal defrauding that could stand up on court, probably not. Is is a moral defrauding? Yes. IMO, he has a 2010 RV, not a 2012 RV.

No because the chassis is the only thing thats 2010.. everything else that makes it an RV and not a Truck is 2012..
Actually, when you think about it, even cars are not actually made in the model year they are sold as.. most parts are actually made 1-2 years before the car is assembled, which is also usually a year before its 'model year'...

This brings back memories of a country & western song about a Cadillac! Wasn't it by Johnny Cash?

I'm glad our 2012 Bounder is on a 2012 Ford chassis. All this stuff makes my brain hurt.

Are you sure it's a 2012 chassis? My 08 is on a 07.

Yep. I'm positive. It was built on September 29, 2011. See? I even know the birthday. (And further boring info...we bought it on 11/11/11.)
