My jetskis only get stabil during winter storage. This is a pic of my carb gaskets on my 2002 jetski. These carbs only see gas as it is oil injection. This motor has around 1600 gal of gas through it since 2002. The only reason I changed the gaskets is because of age. The engine perform flawless. Most ethanol stories are just myth. However, pre1980 stuff does not like ethanol because manufactures were not designing the fuel systems with E10 in mind. A very reputable small engine shop/power sports tech will also tell you that E10 fuel system failures are a myth. I have check

James, I'm curious, I to, have model airplane engines, and the assorted yard engines, hedge trimmer, string trimmer, and every one has to be changed every year. Thankfully, I have found a source for the metering diaphragms. This year, I didn't even try to start the fool things, before I switched to new ones. Everything runs great, especially the 260.

Still not sure about the ethanol issue. It was my understanding that early on ethanol was detrimental to certain types of rubber used in fuel systems. It's obvious that the auto industry had to make those items ethanol proof because it's hard to find fuel that does not have ethanol. I would also assume that MH generators would have to be made ethanol proof as well.
In regards to small gas engines around the house. A friend of mine took his lawnmower in to be fixed because it just would not stay running. The shop he took it to was full of Honda mowers with all the same problem. Carburetors with bad rubber items that had to be rebuilt. Maybe the industry has finally caught up with the problem and most stuff has been made ethanol proof.
My only experience was this year when I did buy some ethanol free gas for my small engine stuff. I put it into my weed eater that didn't run very well and suddenly it did start to run very smooth. I wouldn't swear that it was the fuel but it does make me wonder. I've been around mechanical stuff most of my life and I know that magic stuff does not just happen. A deteriorated rubber gasket does not fix itself and changing fuel won't fix it.

I wish I would have taken a pic of my John Deere push lawn mower carb. It was purchased new in 2000 and it has a Briggs engine. This year I decided to pull the engine cover off and clean it up and perform all the maint. This also included the carb because I was curious on how it looked. After 12 years of service and just sitting over the winter with last years gas, the carb was remarkably clean. Some film on the carb bowl but that was basically it. BTW, this mower has always started on the 2 or 3rd pull every year, even after storage. I have 2 stroke lawn equip but I don't like to really say to much about them because it is premix. The oil I use has stabilizers. They also start every year without an issue but I cant say that is because of the oil or not.
Most issues with fuel in vehicles is from sitting and causing a varnish. But only if they sat for several years have there been issues. But, I only see the ones that have issues so it is hard to say how many don't have issues.

What motors do you have an what do you fly? I started with a DLE but currently use DA's. 120 and 170. So far every one I fly with never had any carb issues. Year after year no issues at all.

i would keep in mind fuel system cleaner is just that when using fuel system cleaner of any kind i would all ways keep a fuel filter on hand as the bad fule well all ways dos under the filters system cleaner works really good after the filter but whats setting in the tank moves in to the system and the filters do there job you really did it the right way you want to use a fuel system cleaner on along trip just make sure you all ways have a back up filter small trick if this happens with no back up filter and the drive motor starts to run sick like its running out for gas pull over for 5 min not running hit the filter/give it some love to get most of the trash to fall to the bottom of the filter this well help get to down the road some more about 30mins or so all ways give it very little gas after a lot of bumps in the road you well have to pull over and do it again i have had to do that befor and hope it helps some on else

PO had 8 yrs of fuel problems, changed at every opportunity, at each service I spotted on his bills a charge of 80-100 for fuel filter. 30k miles sold it to me
making sure I saw the spare fuel filter, I knew something was wrong on the first trip out, motor quit while underway, stopped 10 min and it restarted, when I got home, took off filter, back flushed it and nothing came out, took it apart and it looked like new. After pulling the clean fuel pump from a clean tank, I worked on replacing electrical parts, until shut off went away, even added a extra fuel pump wire bypassing the computer, one of the replacements fixed it but too many to pinpoint which one, only thing I can say for for sure it was not the fuel filter or pump, wire is still in place with a lit dash switch to use if problem ever shows up again.
