What do you think? Is this a good deal?
2012 Tiffin 36LA with all available options , less than 1000 miles. Never used, but titled, so technically used. MSRP $142,000
Price is $105,000.
Call us crazy, but we plan to use it for a cross-country trip and sell upon return. Yes, we know we will take a hit on depreciation, but we love Tiffin and this floor plan is so new we can't find anything old enough to absorb a better portion of the depreciation.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but we also feel that a Tiffin won't depreciate as much as some of the other manufacturers in this price range and/or will be easier to sell.
Thoughts?

Talk to the dealer / present owner about renting it for the trip.
Not only by buying will you have the depreciation but also any applicable registration and sales taxes.

Yes, renting makes much more sense, tag, taxes, depreciation will overshadow rental and mileage fees by a LOT.

Find me a good rental company that has a large class a for less than what buying would cost. I've looked!
Aside from that, if I weren't selling soon, is it a good deal!?

105 is not a bad price, but not anything you couldn't have gotten new. If you really want it,(and it sounds like you) offer 95 see what happens. It sure couldn't hurt.

It is your money and if you can afford to take a year or two to sell it when you get back, and you know you will lose money on the deal and that is OK with you, then go for it. You will probably have a great experience for you and your family. Just don't go in thinking you will not lose money on it. But, if any of us were in this to make money, or not spend money, we would be staying in a sticks and brick and driving our cars to our destinations.

With an MSRP of $142,000 the new price should have been $99,400. That's 25% off and usually a good way to figure the selling price. We got 27% off our DSDP.

Not a great deal. You are buying a used unit so MSRP is a bit irrelevant. The number you should be looking at is the used value of the unit. Once the unit has been titled the used depreciation value is what is important.

YUP - because USED is for sure what it will be selling for upon the return!
