What do you tow? Would you do again?

I've had a lot of trouble with my escape towing it for four down I'm wondering what other people use and if they've had problems using them?

HI,

What model Escape do you have and is it AWD? I have a 2011 Ford Escape Limited and tow it on a Roadmaster Tow Dolly and have no problems. I have been using the tow dolly with the escape since 2011 and prior to that have towed a Honda civic including towing it to AK and back.

The escape tows real good on the dolly but you do have to stop to check the tightness of the straps.

Good Luck!

Hi Droberts9747,
I tow a 2005 GMC ENVOY XUV 4X4. 94K miles towing and no problems. The GMC is heavy duty all the way around. It is very easy to put the transmission into neutral. Turn the dial and run through the gears. That's it. I use the USGEAR system for braking. USGEAR is powered by the same umbilical that connect the coach and toad. Once the mechanical connection is made there is one electrical umbilical (the coach to toad umbilical) to connect and I'm ready to go.

I would make the same decisions again.

Droberts
I towed a '97 Saturn S, (5 speed), for 70k + miles.
I'm currently towing a '07 Saturn, (automatic).
No problem with either.

What "lot of trouble" have you had?
Wondering.

What kind of problems are you having? According to the Remco site the Escape, whether AWD or FWD must be towed on a dolly, not recommended towing four down.
You might want to check the Motorhomes Dingy Towing guide to make sure.

2008 Hyundai Elantra 115,000 trouble free miles, seats 4 adults comfortably (I'm 6'1", scale weight is 2800 lbs and it gets 35 MPG

Put it in Neutral and take off - NO problems, been towed for over 20,000 miles.

I've also towed a Jeep Wrangler and a Subaru Outback both with no problems and both also good cars. It really depends upon what type of vehicle you want to tool around town (or the back roads) in.

2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Hook it up, shift transfer case to neutral, put transmission in park. set the auxiliary braking system on the drivers floor and drive away.

Now towing our fifth Jeep, never had any trouble with any of them.

We flat tow a 2014 Jeep Rubicon using RoadMaster Falcon all-terrain tow hardware and Invisibrake. The Jeep tows very well, and a great on or off road vehicle, though mpg rating is lower than many other towables at about 17 mpg freeway. We love being able to go virtually anywhere, anytime we are in camp. Obviously the Jeep gives us the ability to go into the dessert or the mountains where our motorcoach cannot. An easy, quick hook-up, shift transfer in neutral, then transmission to park, turn off ignition switch and remove key, close and lock door, then off we go. In all respects a great toad!

2012 Honda CRV. Love towing after getting issues resolved. First two trips battery went dead. Manual instructs you to remove radio fuse. That is a hassle to do and it also controls the 12 volt outlets. Ended up putting a cut off switch in which makes it easy to turn on/ off. Next purchased a $60.00 battery jumper from auto zone which I plug the brake buddy into. Now no dead battery and have battery jumper available for uses.

2003 Saturn LW300 station wagon. 6 cylinder, automatic. Nice car and easy to tow behind my coach. Next time I will go with a used Saturn Vue or Honda CRV. Easier to get into and out of, as the wagon is a little low to the ground. But still works well for us. BTW, the car just turned over 50,000 miles, so I have a long way to go.

Dodge Ram 1500

Folks,

I tow a Dodge Ram 2014 1500 4X4 Laramie with Blue Ox Baseplate. It is a Crew Cab with a Cap on the 5 1/2 foot bed.

Tows great and allows me to carry a lot of other stuff.
