What happened to my door???

I know when we left on this trip that there was some sort of a cover over this opening in the door for the water heater, but it disappeared. Must have joined the flotsam and jettsom along the roadway somewhere. What am I looking for and where do you think I might find one?

Thanks

A couple of suggestions. See if one of your local RV repair shops may have replaced a door and has the screen for a decent price. If that fails buy a new door, take out the screen and put it in your old door. You will have then avoided having to paint the new door to match your MH. A new door is available from www.adventurerv.net

I read in some thread a while back that losing that door is possible. One solution offered that I used myself is using garbage bag ties to wrap around the handle on the door (that fell off) and the heater itself. Each model is slightly different but once you set out to do this, you'll find a way to attach the tie(s) in such a way as to not so easily lose the door if it becomes unlatched.

Thats just a bug screen. If you can't locate a replacement at the local RV shop, you could simply make one. The big box hardware stores sell a perforated aluminum sheets in sizes to fit the lower section of screen doors usally 24"x36" or less and they can be easily cut with tin snips. Pretty weird that it just decided to fall out some where.

Yeah, that bothers me too.
The metallic fins you see in the 'hole' now stick out past the edge of the motorhome very slightly. I'm wondering if the heater shifted and knocked it out.?

Don't feel bad; once stopped at an rv park to check in, went out to get the license plate number off of the trailer and found the entry door missing. After parking the trailer drove the truck back down the freeway and found the door intact laying in the grass.

Looks like a pop-in screen where you can bend the tabs in order to secure it better.

What is missing is just a screen as chuckftboy and bamaboy say. You could buy a whole door and take the perforated part out and put it into your old door (which is painted to match your motorhome), but new doors cost $35 to $45 depending on size and make of water heater.

You should be able to get a piece of heavy screen or expanded metal for a few $$ to make a new cover for the opening. Check Lowe's, Home Depot or larger hardware store. I would try to get aluminum so it won't rust.

Actually, a piece of wire (not fiberglass) screen from a window screen would be better at keeping wasps out of the compartment.

Note to self: install window screening onto the existing grate.

This may help Water Heater Bug Screens from PPL. They also have the whole door kit for around $20. If this is not what you need, then give PPL a call. They have lots of RV parts, and I'v always gotten a good price and good service from them.

Here's one on E-Bay that you might be able to use.
New 10 Gallon Atwood Water Heater Door Polar White 62 | eBay
One thing, this area gets very hot when the heater is on. If you put a wire screen over this area, make sure it is Metal, not fiber glass, it will melt!
Hope this helps
Jim
