What not to do while towing
Caught this video on YouTube, had to share. The beginning is a little long, but he does eventually catch up to the motorhome driver.

I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it.
That's why my wife goes back to the toad as I pull ahead slowly and she makes sure the tires are rolling and my flashers are working. Every time after a stop.

We had this happen to us. I always watch the toad as DH pulls off to make sure the steering wheel and wheels turn. Ok, did that. Then we went about 2 miles into a truck stop to fill up. The lot was full of unavoidable holes and (we think) it caused the Jeep Wrangler transmission to jump from neutral to 2 high. I didn't go back there to check when we left the truck stop - my mistake! Guy came flying up beside us pointing to the back. Luck gave us a rest stop right ahead. When we looked we had no blowout but the front two tires were badly scrubbed and one was almost bare. We only had one spare of course. Replaced the worst one and drove very slowly to Canton TX. We were blessed to find a tire store that would order another two tires (the tires only had about 1000 miles on them and were special order). It cost us $600 and three days but boy were we blessed. It could have been so much worse! Now I watch as we leave the truck stops too. Lesson learned.

Can't say I've ever pulled a toad in park but seems like he would have noticed a significant drag. Plus when letting off the gas he should have noticed a pull. Well maybe not that guy he was petty clueless even after seeing the flat tire. Wow is all I could say.

As bad as the motorhome driver was I can't believe the driver that took the video was driving while trying to capture the tire tracks. He could have caused a wreck because he wasn't watching what he was doing.

Pulled mine about 20 feet while the transmission was in park...couldn't tell a thing. That's when we started doing the check each time we start.
Also when I turn I can see both my front and rear tires are rolling and the front tires are moving indicating that the steering wheel is not locked.

Being new to owning/driving a MH, I decided there are two types of MH owners_those who have done this or similar things, and those who have yet to do such. This is our first time towing DW's Jeep, forgot to unlock steering, scrubbed off front Michilen's down to wear indicators by towing it that way for 120 miles. A friend who has driven their MH for 5 years forgot to put their Honda in neutral and towed it for 20 miles until he discovered it.The man who installed the base-plate and tow-bar for us has driven a MH for over 20 years, he said he has replaced many sets of tires on their towed through the years.
I would hesitate to make fun of the MH driver in the video, it just might be a prelude to your incident.

Yep, I pulled mine with the parking brake set once for about 10 feet. I could tell something wasn't quite right, so I immediately stopped and checked things out. Another "I can't believe I actually did that" moment, which seem to increase in frequency with the passage of time.

Yes this can easily happen to anyone as there are a lot of things to remember on just a MH alone and then add a toad, bike rack, kids, pets, rain, in a hurry etc..
I had my step-daughters car breakdown about 2hrs away and got the call around midnight so at 2am I was hooking up her car to the tow dolly in a hurry to get home. All strapped down but forgot to place the pin into the tilt portion of the dolly. Pulled away and heard the scraping of the ramps on pavement. So luckily it was only a few feet. But makes you realize you need to take your time and re check everything before heading out.

Checklists Checklists Checklists!!
When I got my Private Pilots license many years ago... I questioned the checklists and their thoroughness.
Now... I do just about everything by checklist. I actually have a clipboard with my check list and a pen and physically check off: Neutral, Park Brake off, Key in position 1, Fuse switches = off, along with about 50 other "ready to roll" items on the list.
I never have the "shiz... did I forget the XXXXXX" moments 5 or 10 or 50 miles into the trip!
