Whe will the Fall colors in the east hit?

One of the items on my mother's bucket list and it's this year.

We are looking at or around the Fingerlakes NY.

How far off are the colors and how long should the show last.

Also, any tips about where to go or camp would be greatly appreciated.

I want this trip to really be a good time for mom...

The short answer is the leaves will "peak" in color after two hard frosts.

In Mass. mountains, (Berkshires) it will be somewhere between the middle of to the end of October.

Route 2 in the northern section of the state from, Williamstown to Greenfield is one of the best fall foliage viewing roads in the country.

Here is an excellent "tracker" for foliage color that is updated frequently.

In years past we have gone to the Ellicottville Fall Festival in Western NY. (Holiday Valley Ski Resort) this year Oct 12-13. Usually it is peak or one week after that. We stay at Red House State Park about 15 minutes SW. of Ellicottville.

I live on the edge of cape cod, and the colors are just getting ready to show themselves. Last few days and nights were quite chilly . Should ramp up in a few weeks and start to peak about a month from now

One thing to note is that most campgrounds in New England and upstate NY start closing on Oct 1 and most are closed by Oct 15.
It would be a good idea to see what will be available at that time.
