Angry Where are the vin numbers!?!

I have a 1988 Sportscoach Shasta? (Chevy 454 chassis) and after multiple trips to the DMV to get the vehicle registered no one can find the VIN #'s. There's one next to the drivers door, but we cannot find another.
The RV is EXACTLY like the one in the picture.
Like a Sportscoach Pathfinder 1988 class A motorhome.

I've looked on and around the transmission case, on the frame, rear of headers, radiator, etc.

PLEASE HELP!

Check the inside of all the cabnets and any places where it they could small metal tag long enough to hold the vin# On mine, there by the door, on the dash (Drivers side near windshield) and also near the weight charts. A total of three places. Hope i was of some help for ya.

Here's a couple of links that might help. They're from the Coachmen RV website:

Where do I locate the Serial Number of my unit?

According to that page:

Quote:
Older Motorized: (1990 + Before)
  • Stamped into a tag which is mounted to the firewall under the hood.
  • (Rear Diesel-under rear wall hood)
  • Stamped in the entrance door frame (not the door) just above the striker
plate. (Found when outside, facing the doorway, with the door open)
What does the Coachmen serial number look like?

Quote:
  • Between 1981 and the acquisition of Coachmen RV assets by Forest River In, units manufactured and sold by Coachmen Industries have serial numbers with 17 digits and the 1st 3 digits will be either 1TC or 1TJ.

edited to add: I'm sorry. After re-reading your post, I guess you've already found that number. It appears you are now trying to find the VIN to the chassis. From my recollection, the older Chevy chassis had their VIN on the radiator core support but it sounds as if you've already looked there. Sorry, I'm not being of much help to you.

Do they need to see a second serial number for confirmation ? Or does the serial # your finding not match your paper work ?
Dodges ; Class C chassis ; of your vintage only stamped the last 7 figures of the full number into the frame , left side of the frame just behind the front suspension rear attachment point.
May be on the top of the frame and only visible with a mirror.

Found a GM service manual online and the only location they show for the P chassis serial number plate , is outside top of the firewall, top of the drivers side on the rad support. That would put the plate on the metal portion of the rad support behind the left side headlamps.
From the drawing , looks like even with the top of the rad.
Good Hunting.

Both.
I need a second vin #.
The engraved numbers I've found on the frame and trans are not matching.
I found the coach vin next to the drivers side door and the chassis vin under the hood right above the radiator.

I'm guessing that your bringing this unit in from out of state.
Was the purchase a private deal or dealer ?
Do any of the numbers you found agree with your existing paperwork ? or any Out of state title papers ?
The axle weight / tire rating tags should not have been removed.
And the manufacturers equipment sheet is placed in the back of a cupboard or closet so as to be where no one would remove it .
Has the inside of the MH been modified ?
Transmission change in a 25 year old coach wouldn't be unheard of, so that number not being correct should not be an issue.

It's from Ohio and I purchased it in California. The one Vin tag I found by the drivers side door matches the Ohio title info. I think California uses the chassis info?
It was bought from a private party.
No such papers in the closet or cupboards.

Would going back to the seller and getting a bill of sale from him quoting both sets of numbers be any help?

There's the vin for the coach on the bill of sale. Unfortunately, DMV needs to see two of the same one.

And the axle weight tag would have provided that.
Have you tried contacting GM, about hidden serial numbers ,or a replacement axle weight tag ? May mean serial # verification at a GM dealership and having them receive; from GM ; and install the tag.

The GM chassis VIN doesn't matter, it's the final manufacturer's that counts. A call to RVIA might verify where and how many VINs the final manufacturer is required to put on. More than 1 may not even be required.
